it should only last like 2 hours, so hang in there...

which means basically, when i get a bad one, i get stroke symptoms... so...

i'm on Fioricet - barbituates, basically...

Though, when i could take Imitrex, I *swore* by it...

Imitrex was wonderful...

howeverr, due to getting severe weakness on one side of my body, and slurring of speech, and forgetting words (as i said, stroke symptoms)...

and due to the method that Triptans (imitrex, zomig, etc) work, by lowering blood pressure, it is not a good idea to treat such patients with such drugs.

so... i'm on pain-killers, basically...

as i said though, i would much prefer to go on imitrex, as it *worked*, and had a much less chance of addictive behaviours.

I get them too, every 6 months or so, I get nervous taht the crazy zig-zagging lines won't go away. They always do. I fucking hate migraines.

5. I have a migraine also and I'm at work

under these lovely fluorescent lights, not to mention the computer monitor. I will be here all night. The good news is that this one is not a killer as compared to some that I get, but it is letting me know that it is here. I'd love to go home but since I just started this job that is not an option.

7. I don't know about MSG

but I do know what can cure migraines: Botox. Seriously, I read about it as a cure for migraines two years ago, when I was getting one of those horrible headaches twice a month. Now I get botox injections three times a year, and I've barely had a headache-let alone a migraine (zero)-since then. :-)

26. No differance

they put them right between my eyebrows. The shots kinda hurt, but nothing like a migraine. It costs about $300 every 4 to 6 months. It's not covered by insurance because the FDA hasn't cleared it for migraines yet (they still don't know if it's the paralysis or the toxin in Botox that stops migraines) it's still being researched for other uses such as chronic pain, stroke, etc. as well.

I use to take six Tylenol a day for stress headaches, but since I've had the Botox, I generally take Tylenol only one or twice a month (if that). I'm thrilled with this "cosmetic"!

16. Imitrex ... truly a wonder-drug

I have suffered from migraines since I was 16. When I was younger they were the vomit for six hours continuously with no lights in the room type of migraines.

A month ago a fellow migraine sufferer gave me some Imitrex as I wallowed in my agony.

OH - MY - GOD

It was amazing. I could feel it just "float away", and even better, the next day when I woke up with the start of a rebound migraine, I took another, and it just stopped.

If you can take this drug your results may be amazing.

23. anybody ever try singulair for migraine prophylaxis?

it's normally prescibed to treat asthma (at 10-20mg), but my neurologist started me on 30mg/day nearly 2 years ago.

my migraines went from about 18 a month (ouch!) to about 6-8 a month. no idea how it helps, but it certainly seems to have a positive effect on me, and i've tried just about everything else and nothing works.

when i do get an attack, i take a triptan tablet (usually imitrex, but i switch off with zomig and maxalt sometimes to avoid my body getting too used to any one of them). if that fails, and i don't have an injection handy, i use stadol (a narcotic that makes the nausea much worse, but at least it help make the pain manageable).

24. Try a gel Ice pack around your head

They sell them in drugstores. Usually rectangular and come in a white, stretchy sleeve with a velcro closure. I wrap it around my head and look like a Civil War wounded, but it tends to really help. They show it wrapped around an ankle or a knee on the package, but hey, why not improvise?

Imitrex also used to help sometimes, I used the nasal sprays. I have been w/o healthcare but just started a new job. I have to wait until October to get in to see the doctor to get a new prescription. This was a problem because w/o insurance they go for around $20/dose. Insurance also limits the number of them that you can get per month. Then you have to play the game, "ok, is this one bad enough to use an Imitrex, or can I tough it out". Imitrex only works if you take it early enough so you can see the problem.

But, I digress, try the icepack, works well for me. I haven't dared to bring one into work, they think I am strange enough already.
