Anyone ever tried "classmates.com"?
Of the ubiquitous banner ads?

Any success stories? Or just a waste of time?

Have you become inundated with spam and sales pitches?

1. they are "spamalot".
But once you strain past all the marketing I did find some old High School buddies who I talk to again because of the reunion-like sites.

Yes
I tried it a few years ago, just to see what it was like. Never registered for the paid version though. Aside from periodic emails from classmates.com, I don't think that I suffered much from the experience, spam-wise.

2. I signed up for it
but only a few members of my class had joined - so it was pretty useless.

3. It worked for me
The one person I was looking for joined because she was looking for me.

I didn't get a lot of spam from them.

4. Yes, with success
Have been connected with at least three good friends from the past. Two from high school and one from elementary/jr high. In all three cases, we are still conversing. Two are dire hard Dems (thank goodness!!!) and one is an on-the-fence Repub -- I'm soooo working on him to switch and he is teetering!

Actually, it's GREAT. I'm so glad I'm back in touch with one friend. I was in time to help her through her mom's death. Her mom was like a second mom to me when I was in high school. I helped write her mom's obituary. All this after 30 years of not even knowing where we were.

Is that a success story? I think so. It's not always about finding lost loves.

5. my partner signed up for it
She believed it was $4 a month.

They have two options and she ended up to the $39 a year option (and they renew automatically) on accident because of the way the form is setup.

They also sign you up automatically for some stupid travel deal thing for 9 a month so you have to go and cancel that (you can't cancel when you enroll).

She used it for about a week, contact 2 friends from school, and hasn't used it since.

I WOULD NEVER USE IT simply because of all the sh@t they add on to the service and then they probably sold our e-mail addy to boot.

6. I tried it a long time ago
and it worked well. I got crap email from them a lot, but no real increase in other spam.

I found about 8 of my former friends from high school.

7. BAD experience with them LOL.

My friend found a mutual friend of ours who I'd always had a crush on.
He had a crush on me too and the chemistry is still extremely strong...except he's living with someone now.
Uh, he kissed me. Twice. She saw. Now none of us talk, again.
Perfectly nice memories and friendships down in flames.... thank you very much classmates.com (and self control)!! (Uh, is this like blaming McDonald's for a heart attack?)

Actually, a friend told me about a cheating spouse/affairs website, as kind of a joke, and apparently classmates.com is QUITE the relationship ruiner!

Um. If you're looking for friends I'd imagine it's fine. If you're looking for flames, whether classmates.com or elsewhere, just be careful.

As for the spam...if you find who you're looking for, it's worth a bit of spam I think.

8. I signed up years ago
And only after I gave them all of my personal information, I was informed that I had to fork over $$$ to actually use their service.

My high school has an alma mater page for all graduates. I was able to post my contact info there, as well as my "latest news". Is that something you could use?

9. Good and uh, weird
I found a couple of people. I don't converse with them, the one ended up being a fundie. She always did have a problem acting like a sweet innocent while she was fucking every guy in school. Ah, oh well.

The weird? An email from my ex-husband, way ex, 20 years ex. Creepy. Sent him packing for a second time.

10. Well..
... I signed up a long time ago.. mostly they e-mail you every few days when new classmates show up.. not bad though.. someone did e-mail me about my high school 11 year (yeah, 11, go figure) reunion.

Overall it's not that great.. but doesnt hurt anything to give it a shot.

Heyo

11. Like a bunch of other sites
when they started out they were pretty good. I found some friends that I hadn't talked to for a long time, and they had a decent message board.
I've changed my isp and haven't bothered to reregister with them, I was getting too much spam from classmates. I'll look in on them every now and then to see if anyone new has registered, but I'm not going to let them know anything more about me.

12. It worked for me
The one person I was looking for on the high school alumni site was not there so I lost interest. Then my school won state so I went to their site again and I was directed to classmates.com from my high schools alumni site when they switched from hosting their own.

Lo and behold, there she was. My old flame, the one I have never forgotten. We dated off and on for 8 years but she was wild and attracted to jerks, married one and moved to the stick. We had lost trac, no contact of any sort for 22 years.

I signed up and sent her an email and she immediately wrote back, she had been searching for me as well. That was almost 3 years ago and we have the most amazing relationship, picked it up like we were never apart. We are best friends for life. She is still married to the jerk but no longer finds an attraction in it, and he has gotten worse. I was/am in a horrible marriage myself.

She has settled down and there has been no hanky panky, no plans or promises made, but we both know that sooner rather than later we will both divorce, and we also both know that we have a best friend and soulmate waiting for us.
