Tomorrows the big day....surgery... |
|
Tomorrow is a big day for me. I am having four screws extracted from my knee.
I am scared...the anesthesiologist called me today to tell me that she will put me completely under, so I can't have anything to drink or eat after midnight, until the surgery is over.
I don't like blood, not at all. When my son had his tonsilectomy, I fainted when the nurse put his drip in. I become nauseated thinking about the whine of the Black & Decker backing those screws out and the noise it will make.
Hope recuperation is short. As in a couple of days, because I am having breakfast with the Democratic candidate for Lt. Gov. on Monday morning, and if I have to be wheeled in on a gurney I won't miss that!
Thanks for all the earlier reassurances and well-wishes!

1. Good luck and you would at least be too gaga from the knockout gas to |
|
pay much heed to the commemorations of the anniversary of *it.*
Hope the knockout gas didn't make you too :puke:y like it did me.

2. I'm a bit of a fraidy cat where anesthesia is concerned too |
|
but the only times I was under, it all turned out fine so I suppose it will for you too. Surgery is invasive and is, therefore, always stressful.
I am sending you well wishes..HUGS...and just know there is a great big cyber commmunity holding your hand as you go to sleep and get those screws out of your knee.
BTW, would you mind PMing your surgeon's name to someone over in GD...I think he had a couple screws come loose too. Granted, the cranium is a bit more complex ..but it's worth a shot

LOL! And my ignorant ass was sitting here thinking, "Oh Jeez, cranial surgery...much more complex than mine, but I really should help him....dammit NSMA!"
LOL!

3. I'd be worried about... |
|
having a few screws loose on Monday morn...
Just think what the Lt. Gov will think then...
Nothing to fear from Black and Decker 'cuz they're gonna' give you some happy pills...
Honestly, take care and no fear. Fear is the destroyer...
Bless...

6. Nothing to worry about! |

I've had two total knee replacements, and there was no problem-- when they put the IV drip in, just close your eyes and hang on to the railing-- the pain is slight, and only lasts a second. You'll be lying there, and suddenly you'll be waking up, not realizing you were ever asleep! No sense of time passage at all-- the first one disappeared almost three hours from me, and the second one three and a half. No problem! Just lie back and enjoy the buzz!

When they put the titanium in my arm, the liquid valium was awesome! Be sure to ask for a liquid valium drip!
Oh, and when you're feeling better, how about sending those red beans and rice comments again. DU had a glitch and I lost 'em before copying to the hard drive. :(
Good luck, hope it doesn't hurt too bad.

I appreciate your reassurances and I know that I will be fine. I am not such a big baby, usually, but the mechanical part of this really freaks me out....ok, I'll admit it, when it comes to invasion of body with foreign objects, I am a complete and total wahwah baby.
((hugs))to you all for caring.

I was in nursing school briefly, and worked in the recovery room to assist the people coming out of anesthesia. They would always ask when the operation was going to start! So basically, it will be over before you know it.

after a dose of pre-surgery drugs - the Black & Decker sounds are just the hospital/clinic remodeling - nothing more.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery

18. Wow! My thoughts will certainly be with you. |
|
I have had surgery three times in the past ten years and I wouldn't wish it on anybody. Going under is scary, but waking up isn't so bad; you kind of feel dreamy until it really starts to hurt. I understand about the whine. Just thinking about it puts my teeth on edge. It is now all over for me (hopefully), and it will soon be behind you. At least you have something to look forward to...
Good luck and Godspeed!

20. Hang in there, jchild -- I don't care for anesthesia either! |
|
I know it's scary, giving up control like that, but what a *relief* when the pre-anesthesia drug (usually Versed) is administered -- you'll feel "floaty," and will probably be tempted to crack a joke or two. Honestly, you are so relaxed that you don't care!
After that, you come to, wondering how that hour just dropped out of your life. You'll do just great, I know it.
Sending many good thoughts your way, and hope that your procedure goes without the slightest hitch.
Let us know how you did, okay?
Take good care -- :toast:
