.MOV to DVD conversion question re: Kerry Movie.
Edited on Wed Oct-13-04 01:53 PM by kaitykaity

I downloaded the Kerry movie, all 617MB and burned
it onto a CD, but it won't play in my DVD player.
Any audio/video whiz kids out there know how I can
convert the .MOV to the DVD format???

TIA.

edit: typo

1. http://www.videohelp.com/
It's not easy. CD and DVD are two different formats, and there are several DVD formats. If there's software that will do this, you can find a link on here. You're definitely going to need a DVD burner--not just a CD burner.

2. with many new cd burning programs
you could just set the format for video cd and it will do the conversion and burn it.
i think pretty much every dvd player will play video cds as well.

7. My burner program will burn video CDs but it won't read the
.MOV format. "unsupported file format."

3. You need to convert it to VCD for CD-R use
Most DVDs will play VCDs and the higher-resolution SVCDs, but you need a program to convert the MOV file.

Nero 6 Ultra does it; there are less-expensive programs like VCDEasy that are more specialized. There's also some freeware out there, but it's a little trickier to use.

4. Actually, it's not really that difficult

You simply convert the quicktime file into VCD format (or SVCD if your player supports that).

I can't tell you how to do that on your machine (I'm guessing that you are using Windows) but it is not hard to do - I've seen literally thousands of references to it. For me, a simple one-liner will do it for me on my Linux machine (making an SVCD).

transcode -i goingupriver.mov -export_fps 0,4 -V -y mpeg2enc,mp2enc -E 48000 \
-F5,-S3000 -w 2500,250,100 -b 224 -Z 480x480 -j -66 --pulldown -o goingupriver \
&& mplex -f 8 -o goingupriver.mpg goingupriver.m2v goingupriver.mpa

Edit: reformatted - \ = line continuation

6. :) don't worry, it's just showing that it isn't a complicated job
--- you have lots of nice GUI oriented programs that will help you do it.
