I'm bummed. I banged my knee up and it is the size of a grapefruit |
|
when it should be the size of an orange. I turned too quickly and walked into the lower crossbar on the weight machine and it hit me just above the knee. I had that terrible "funny bone" sensation. It felt fine a few minutes later, then it started stiffening up on me. I've taken ibuprofen and iced it and kept it elevated. Think it'll be better tomorrow?
(I'm not very experienced with athletic injuries.)

2. I'd recommend seeing an orthopedic physician |
|
If for no other reason than they'll be able to drain the excess fluid from the knee.
It will ease your discomfort significantly and they'll be able to find out if you have damage that needs repair.
I've had 3 knee surgeries. As a general rule, they don't get better on their own.

7. The swelling seems to be all over the knee, as opposed |
|
to under the "cap". Is that what you are saying?
I have an ortho, but he is hard to get in to see. I'm almost beginning to wonder if I damaged the lower part of the femur and it is acting out on the joint. Sometimes I get a sensation like it was over-extended. Does that sound like anything you've experienced?
BTW, I've been very lucky. I used to run all the time and I never had knee problems. I usually do uphill treadmill work because it seems easier on my knees, but also because I burn more calories in a shorter time. How did you develop knee problems?

12. I had a sensation like that |
|
when I had a ligament basically over-stretch and pull on some cartilidge in the knee.
If the swelling hasn't gone down by tomorrow get it looked at for sure.
My first knee injury was a complete tear of the MCL and ACL. I was off my feet for 7 months. I injured it making a cut playing soccer. My knee made the loudest sound my body has ever produced, everyone on the field heard it go.
The last two have been minor ligament tears and cartilidge removal.

20 minutes on 20 off. Keep taking the ibuprofen as directed. It probably will take a few days to get better depending on how bad it is. Obviously try to stay off it as much as possible.

4. That sounds about right from what I learned in nursing school; |
|
unfortunately, I ran three miles before I realized it was really hurt. My five year old told me to see the doctor and I said "Maybe tomorrow." Are you a PT person?

Do you mean personal trainer? Not yet but I hope to be one day. You probably aggravated it when you ran. If you feel like it is more than just a bruise or are concerned see a doctor. But keep the ice and ibuprofen going.

Seriously, keep the ice on it. I think it's still going to be sore and maybe still swollen tommorrow.
Hope you get better soon.

8. R.I.C.E. Treatment - Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. . . |
|
and get thee hence to a doctor ASAP. Preferably a specialist in exercise injuries. They may have to drain fluid out of your knee and take an MRI.
