I'm blowing off Yankees/Sox tonight
The debate takes precedence, and Yankees/Sox is starting to resemble professional wrestling.

There are ersatz brawls where no punches are thrown.

Fox and ESPN's relentless promotion of said "brawls."

The cartoon cutout "villains" like Pedro and whichever Yankee or Bostonian participates in the latest brawl.

The predictability of said "brawls."

The total irrationality of partisans on both sides.

The costumes: The hairy unshavens versus the clean-cut corporates.

Soap opera sub-plots: The Curse versus the tyranny of King George.

The growing irrelevance of quality: bad pitching and inept fielding abound on both sides.

I watch this stuff, and I root for the Yankees. But Yankees/Sox feels more childish all the time, particularly this year, when much bigger things are happening.

So I'll be taking the night off from baseball and rooting for my favorite Red Sox fan: John Kerry.

3. Oh Gawwwd, glad I missed that one!
Baseball used to be this glorious thing that was mainstream, but still outside the culture. Now it's all branding and revenue maximization strategies. It started going downhill for me when they began playing commercials at top volume at the ballpark so you couldn't even shoot the breeze with your friend(s) between innings.

Well, I'm gonna flip between the game and the debate; but the debate gets priority. I can't wait to see Kerry bitch slap the shrub!!
