When did we start spelling "lose" and "loser" |
|
"loose" and "looser"? I never got the memo.

1. You didn't get the memo because the people who do that |
|
couldn't write one. Poor grammar is sadly prevalent in our society.

but this has really gotten out of hand. It's such a simple word.

12. I'm not nit-picky either. I personally don't care nor do I think less |
|
of one with horrible grammar. I do worry that we're beginning to loose (hehehehehe) our grasp of the English language. I worry that we're heading towards a new sort of dark ages in our culture, if we're not already there.

I'd point out that we're talking about spelling...not grammar. :)

if "it" is the concept of "the loser" than "it" is spelled improperly. Otherwise one is left to argue that the writer is inappropriately invoking the concept of "loosening," when what they clearly intent is "the loser". The writer appears to honestly think that "loser" is spelled "looser" which, in my book, counts as a misspelling.

20. You're right, I think it's debatable |
|
I understand what you're saying, I just don't agree with the classification. I think we're dealing with improper word choice. But, it's a tomato/tomAHto type of debate. They're wrong either way.

17. You loosers are all hypocrates! Seriesly! |
|
That last one, "seriesly," is something I see all the time. I always want to correct people but am worried I'll look like a nit-picker. But people should realize that there's always a "consider the source" section in the reader's brain: if simple words are spelled incorrectly, it makes you question the validity of the entire message. So if you want to be taken seriesly, make the effort to spel gud. Seriesly!

Mainly because I am finding myself wanting to spell it that way and have to THINK about it before I write it now.

As long as it is a real word, it does not matter that it has NO context whatsoever.

Overblown hysterics. Inversely proportional to the importance and/or excitement level of the topic. It is only used by breathless know-nothing ninnies.
"OMG! I just ate the last donut!" I am sick of this new trend on web boards. :hurts:
