Poll question: In which of these living environs would you feel most comfortable?
Assuming the benefits and disadvantages, naturally.

1. I'll take the log cabin in the woods
I have a friend who has a place in the middle of the Adirondack State Forest. It's about 20 miles from the nearest phone or electric line. The place is rigged with gaslight, has a huge fireplace and wood stove, a gas range and refrigerator in the kitchen and an outhouse that sits just down the hill in a lovely meadow where deer wander by as you sit there with the door open.

When I first moved to Cal, I lived with a friend who had a similar place though this one had solar power and indoor plumbing. I like it simple - I like to be close to nature.

2. I would vote for a farm in the country-but it wasn't listed.
I don't need a mansion.

3. Agree, Too much to clean
A Mansion is too much to clean and maintain. Unless you can afford to pay people to do it for you.

5. You would need to assume that as a mansion owner.....
Someone would be cleaning it for you. And preparing your meals, and washing and driving your car, and you'd have a tailor, etc......

Sounds great, but..would you be comfortable?

4. I'm quite comfy in my urban bungalow, thank you
I've done the high-rise apartment thing, and that got old after 12 years.

7. I'd love to have an urban bungalow, too.
Too bad they are out of my price range here or I'd have bought one.

My house is bungalow-sized, just not bungalow in appearance...maybe I can say it's a mid-1980's bungalow.

8. Mansion in the country
Doesn't even have to be a mansion ... but somewhere where I have some space and am far enough from the city lights to be able to see the stars at night :)

:hi:

9. So far, I'm surprised at the results of this poll.
Mrs. XNASA & I have been talking about empty-nest and yes, even retirement plans.

The two most desirable living arrangements that we can agree on are the Hi-Rise thing, and then eventually the RV thing (or something like it). Those are the only two categories that have received no votes at all.

That so many DU'ers would choose "Mansion" is also kinda suprising. I threw that one in there for grins, but it's the vote leader. I myself, would not want to live a pampered lifestyle. I'm too hands on.

13. I voted more for the country than the mansion
I'd prefer a modest house in the country, actually.

14. barge
I'd love to get a barge, or a houseboat of some kind. Barges have so much floor space, though...

15. High Rise with a doorman...
Let me explain. Skip and I dream of living in a large city where stuff is open 24/7. And we swear that we will live in NYC for at least two years of our life together. And if we love it, we will stay forever.
