The last one I bought gets soft and mushy in the shower. I mean it still works, but the other ones I've had have stayed pretty firm. Does anyone else get loofahs that go soft when you use them or did I get a defective one or what?

1. Be sure to let it dry completely between uses |
|
they are known to culture Pseudomonas aeruginosa folliculitis and then you rub your skin with it and Bingo! http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcgi?artid=262805

Of course it dries completely between uses. Ew ew ew!
This doesn't answer my question, though. Perhaps I should just go buy a new one.

the nylon ones sold with body wash. You can microwave them for 30 seconds and kill all the critters.

I like the scratchiness of loofahs. Better for exfoliating, too.

It's a scratchy sponge. I don't know how I ever lived without them.
Here in TX the clerks tell people they're just for women. Silly rednecks.

8. Hmmm I haven't tried those |

I'm afraid to go into bath and body works. I have very little self control, and even less money.

7. It will not get mushy unless harboring mold. |
|
Which means if you have a mushy one, get rid of it. They are natural and will naturally have mold unless you not only let them dry, but let them dry OUT of the bathroom and any humid environment. Which means you would have to take it out of the bathtup and hang it up in your bedroom or something every time you get out of the shower. This is a pain in the ass, which is why I use the ginger scrub that Origins makes to exfoliate.

This is the first time I've had this happen with any of my loofahs. I have a few... I wonder why the others don't do it.

I had it happen to one of mine and asked my dermatologist--she said it was a common thing for them to get moldy and you can tell if they're moldy because the mold spores break down the fibers and they get soft.
Perhaps it's been more humid this past season or something.

Is this O'Reilly related? The more details you can provide the better.
