NBA ponders alterations to 3-point rules
The NBA is considering a plan to abolish the three-point shot until the end of games to increase shooting percentages and make the sport more aesthetically pleasing.

The NBA may ban three-pointers until there's five minutes left in the game in its development league this season, Stu Jackson, NBA senior vice president of basketball operations, said in a telephone interview.

The National Basketball Development League season is scheduled to begin Nov. 19.

"We've talked about it," Jackson said. "We're wrestling with the idea." He said it was too early to tell if the NBA would change the rule.

"I don't want to jump that far ahead," he said. "It's a very radical change, certainly one that would take a great deal of time to get support if there were positive aspects."

2. That is kind of interesting
I think a 3-pointer should only count if the player can recite a passage of the Bhagavad-Gita while in the process of shooting.

3. 3 point line stinks
I have been watching BBall since 1964 and actually watched the game where havlicek makes the steal on the inbounds pass that we all see in the highlights. The 3 point line has ruined the game. The current game is like watching paint dry. How much can Iverson and Kobe dribble. If I dribbled for 15 seconds I could get open too. The 3 point line has caused the game to be a plodding half court game with the results being a poor 3 point chuck. Back in the 70's and 80's you had great half court teams playing great fast break teams and the team that controlled the pace of the game won(think of the Knicks vs celtics and celtics vs. Lakers). The 3 point line is why we lost the Olympics. We can't play basketball anymore.

4. I couldn't agree more.
I think the plan detailed above might make for an interesting middle of the road solution.

I highly doubt we'll ever see it though. Iverson and Kobe sell WAY too many jerseys...

5. I quote Carlin in response:
"25 points if you can get the ball in the basket off another player's head.

Boy, you'll see some fights in those really close games!"

If they're gonna change the game, then CHANGE the game.

7. iT's not the 3 poit line
Raising the basket doesn't help. If a team shoots 40% from the 3 point area they beat a team shooting 50% from the 2 point area

8. you can't raise the rim, that's just ridiculous..
the dunk hasn't ruined the game, it's the three point line, as stated in the article. If you raise the rim, you take away the inside game, and all you have is a bunch of guys chucking the ball from 20', which is why the games are so low scoring.
