Explain these shoes
Date shoes, sexy shoes, flirty shoes YES. Who would ever wear these in a professional setting? I'm just not getting this one.

7. And the Kerry daughters....
Looked impeccable as always. As far as the Twins poor upbringing goes, I was raised by shitty co-dependant alcoholic parents too but I've figured out how to dress appropriately. Sheesh.

8. What is WRONG with you people????
Criticizing the footwear of 20-something girls, for heaven's sake? No offense, but...that's pretty pathetic and trivial. Who on earth cares? The kids are modestly-enough clothed. If folks are having sexual fantasies because the girls' are wearing sandals...well...how pitiful. WHY OH WHY can't folks aim their fire where it belongs, at the wretched candidate, and leave the kids out of it? AND WHO CARES WHAT THE WIVES WEAR????

11. They are public figures
in a very public setting, and as such, whether they like it or not, they will be regarded as setting an example. While their clothing is quite appropriate in some circumstances, a Presidential debate on national television is NOT the place to break out the clubwear and hoochie shoes. In my opinion, all attendees - including the general audience - should dress as they would for court, or for a job interview.

A bikini is appropriate for a beach. It's not appropriate clothing for the office. Neither are CFM shoes appropriate in this context.

13. They are campaigning, they are adults, and just when are 20 somehtings
out of bounds. They are NOT children. At some point they have to be held accountable for their behavior. I beleive if they are campaigning and an adult, they are fair game.

10. Explain the whole outfit
On all of them.

Barbara's blouse looks like it came from Pickles' closet.

Pickles' outfit looks like it was made from a couch cover.

Jenna looks like she forgot to get dressed at all.

Or do I have the girls backwards? I can never be bothered to remember which is which.

It's hot there...open toed shoes are a mainstay??
Give 'em a break-
Jenna is dressed and coiffed less formally than you'd expect, but I think that's the best picture I've seen of the three of them.

Plus, if they're Republicans they'll have the terrible fashion sense of Victoria Clarke, Grandma Bush, and Karen Hughes soon enough.

16. I don't think they're all that terrible.
Edited on Thu Oct-14-04 06:34 PM by SarahBelle
Actually, I have to go to a formal dinner related to my husband's work in another week and bought similar shoes (black sequined sandals with 3&1/2 inch heels along with a red silk dress that shows some- *gasp* cleavage). I'm no hoochie and have never been one. I wear sneakers, clogs, or flip-flops 99% of the time, but when I dress up, I like to dress up and look like a woman.

I'm all for criticizing Republican policies, but I don't always understand this. Actually, most Republican women seem a bit dowdy (or giant fake helmet head televangelist women with too much makeup), so this seems like a nice improvement. If Cate Edwards wore the same thing, people would say she looked nice. The Bush girls looked fashionable to me. Those are the current "what's in" thing as far as dressy shoes.

18. It's a business setting, not a social one.
That's how I'd look at it. It was their father's business function, and not a business casual business function, either.

Business etiquette pretty much frowns upon strappy sandals and open toes. While short sleeves aren't necessarily a problem, they need to be done well. Little linen shifts would have been far more appropriate for the climate (it was 82 degrees at 7 PM in Tempe last night) and the event than that black bag thing Jenna was wearing and that peasant blouse Barbie must have smuggled north from Nogales. Just because it's Phoenix metro is no reason to dress badly. (just because everyone else in the town does it is no excuse.... Yes, I can be snarky about this; I grew up there.)

Besides, they had to know they were going to BOB afterwards. Spike heels on a very expensively maintained infield?? Have they no consideration for the team? Did they learn nothing from their father's time with the Astros? And even if they don't and didn't, haven't they learned that their heels will sink and make them look really strange?

21. Look at Jenna. She has to sit hunched over to avoid showing her crotch.
That looks just terrible. I'm sorry, but here outfit reflects badly on her father. This is politics. She was at a televised political event. She should have dressed appropriately. Bless her heart.

20. Love the shoes
But not for a Presidential debate. They aren't wearing hose, either. And Barbara's top is way too casual.
