How come everytime I open the DU home page I get a popup |
|
that warns me my computer could be infected with spyware. It's been happening for the last couple weeks and it only comes up when I go to DU. Are they merely playing with my tinfoil hat tendencies?
Anyone else having this happen?

1. No. It's only you. Screw that tinfoil hat on a little tighter. |

That creates the pop up hawking their "solution." Run adaware and see if that does the trick. If you don't have it, it's a free download--well worth the time and trouble.

2. Switch to Mozilla Firefox, and kiss those popups goodbye |
|
Oh... and that's a pretty common popup ad... designed to make it look like a system message.

3. We have a couple of blockers - StopZilla is one - and they |
|
have helped a lot. Before that, the pop-ups were so aggressive, I could barely get to my search results without wanting to throw the pc out the nearest window. Some are free and some have a nominal charge.

4. i've been getting that for the past couple of months! |
|
very annoying because i can't delete it but have to wait a period of time before it either opens or disappears, when it's good and ready to.

5. I turn pop-up blocker off here |

to help DU maximize their earnings. The ad you're referring to is, probably, just a standard ad for spyware remover. Same as "You Win a Free Lobster Dinner!" Just ads. I dislike this format, but it seems to be the industry standard.
Of course, if DU isn't serving pop-ups, you very well could be infected with some kind of scumware.
