Poll question: Let's talk Coffee.
It's 5:05 am and I'm on my second cup. An organic, shade-grown, free-trade version from the local health-food store. It comes in a plain brown paper bag, so I can't remember its name. I just couldn't face work in the mornings without my coffee. DU has been a favorite coffee stop for a long time. What's your preference?

I sure look forward to reading your thoughts when I get home from work tonight. Will I be able to find the poll?

we use them too, about every two years when the coffee maker breaks. They entice us back with a new coffee maker.

We get it, buy coffee from them for a month or so.

Woohoo, free coffee maker.

7. Eight O'Clock Arabica, red bag - also Kundalini!!!
Edited on Thu Sep-11-03 08:24 AM by unidentifiedbassplay
Bin drinkin' it since I was 11. A big reason why I stay in my neighborhood is that the local grocery carries it.

Kundalini is a coffee/espresso blend that Equal Exchange carries. As coffee it will buzz you like a Telecaster Bass pickup on full treble.

NOw Drinking: Swing's Diplomat Blend, the only alternative being the damned S*******s in the cafeteria.

51. Peets is awesome!
Absolutely the BEST.

Turns out the guy that started Starbucks used to work for Peets and wanted
Peets to go "national"... Peets said no- quality will be lost. They were right!

My favorite roaster, after Peets, Kaldi's, is a local who was inspired by Peets
and when i tasted my first cup it took me back to SF standing at a Peets counter...

If coffee is over a week roasted it goes bitter... ech... Peets knew that.

Local roasters often beat the pants off Starbulk.

Hmmmm. That's not fair, you have an inside coffee connection too! :-)

Actually, I didn't start drinking coffee until I was 30 either. It just didn't interest me. Then I discovered that I could work-out in the morning (instead of afternoon) if I had a cup- lol . Now I adore the stuff.

and I hope he'll be back by the time I feel good enough to be around.

We need everybody in this community and I suggest everyone who has attitudes' and egos' put them in your pockets because they aren't going to do anything positive in our cause to work together to make this a better place for our future with the regime we have in office.

Now this saddens me, whatever was done and said I hope it is worked out because I know Zomby Woof has contribute alot to make this place grow and his presence will be surely missed!

22. Turkish coffee.
Start with a good dark roast, mix in some cinnamon and cardamom and a few other things, dump it into an ibrik, let it boil and foam 3 times, and then you have heaven in a cup. No one does coffee better than the Turks. (Cigarettes, either. Turkish coffee and a real Turkish cigarette are a delightful combination.)

30. Trader Joe's Bay Blend
their darkest dark roast, and it comes in the big can - usually I can make that last nearly 2 weeks. Wonderful stuff! By the way, caffeine and coffee are good fro y'all, despite the efforts of decades of work by coffee-hating epidemiologists (some of 'em are my good friends, but they're _wrong_) to find something bad about coffee. But, the good stuff - if you drink coffee before driving, you have a lower probability of crashes (sorry, no reference), and, it's protective against Parkinson's Disease (do a search on Grandinetti).

35. mmm coffee.....
My preference: french roast or another SMOKY roast, ground fresh for each cup, made in my french press, served with real cream. (Although I usually have 1/2 1/2 instead.)

I adore coffee. Several years ago I was in Western Massachusetts staying with a friend who only had powdered Sanka. I learned then what "addiction" means. I could think of nothing else but espresso for three or four days. It drove me bonkers and made me really cranky. Finally we passed the Starbucks in Noho and I had to jump out of the car! Later I found Green Mountain coffee beans at the market and that helped. I also found a cool coffee joint in Attleboro and one in Concord NH. So there is *some* decent coffee here and there in New England.

Now I always travel with my french press and some beans.

37. by the way...
...my nephew the barista says that dark roasts do not have more caffeine than light roasts. He says they have less. So the buzz you think you're getting from espresso is probably from the sugar or syrup, not from the beans.

44. Yikes! Over 40 posts and no Kona (or other Hawai'i coffee)?!
They're the only domestic coffees, y'know. Expensive? Yup -- but try some from somewhere besides Kona, like Kaua'i: still pricey, but down there with the premium imports.

Should you find yourself in the Kona district on the Big Island, stop by a place called the Kona Mountain Cafe in Kealakekua (yes, the one in the song "Little Grass Shack"). In addition to actual backpackers out front, you will find that they make their lattes, mochas, etc. with Kona! Now that's Paradise!

Best freaking coffee on the planet! At $12 a pound it had better be. I don't drink it much for that reason, but occassionally one of my relatives in Northern California takes pity on me and sends me some.

At work I drink some excruciatingly Politically Correct coffee a Presbyterian co-worker buys at church (we all chip in on the purchase). It's really quite good, and we all feel virtuous while cultivating our morning buzz, knowing we're supporting some indigenous farmer and preserving the rain forest.
