Poll question: Would you ever file a drivers' license or car tab renewal form online?
You know, where they ask for all of your car and SSN information?

1. Hell yeah
The entire City of San Francisco has ONE DMV. People line up early and bring lunch.

2. Our DMV won't let us
Your insurance has to be on some list before you can do that. I've sent the name of our insurance carrier (a big-name insurance corporation so I know they've heard of them) to the DMV three times and still the name doesn't appear.

I'd renew the tags online but probably not the driver's license. They get the picture messed up when I'm there, I can't imagine what they'd do to it if I wasn't there.

:hi:

3. They don't ask for that stuff in Ohio.
For the tag renewal, anyway. All they want is your plate number, which is checked against the database and reveals whether you are eligible to renew or not. If all I have to give them is my plate number and my credit card info, sure.

If I lived in a state where I was required to give other information, hell no -- but there's no reason you'd renew somebody else's license tag, is there? For a tag, you should only need the plate number. I can't vote in your poll, in other words. I've renewed tags online, but they didn't ask for all that stuff, so I don't know whether it applies or not!

4. I've been doing it for years in Washington
I have never had to give them my SSN; just my VIN.

5. Sure... I did my driver's license online when I moved last year

If someone is intent on stealing your identity, it will be done... it's useless to live in fear of it, just be prepared for the eventuality of it.

On edit... like flamingyouth... they did not ask for my SSN here either (in FL).

7. Just Did It a Week Ago
My birthday was this past Saturday... All I had to know though was a PIN number that came with my registration renewal forms in the mail.

9. Did it every year
But then I got Triple A and I just go to their office. Never a line, never a wait. It's worth the $42 a year just for that. California DMV's are what nightmares are made of.

10. I changed my address online
Of course they lost it the first time and then the post office did not forward my mail (althoug I filled out a form) so it took 3 months but at least I didn't have to wait in line. I can renew my car tags online or by mail.
