A beard is a person of the opposite sex used to hide another's sexual proclivity.

The way the other terms were explained to me many years ago by gay friends, a fag hag hangs out only with gay guys because she is afraid of or unattractive to straight guys. Since I dated men, they said I was just a fruit fly. ;)

You can tell a nice gay man the same way you can tell a nice straight man. He doesn't do all the talking and make you do all the listening, he doesn't put you down to build up his ego, and he doesn't get drunk and hit you because you're the closest target. (A girlfriend of mine was attracted to mean men, straight and gay, so I saw the behavior firsthand. :()
