"I'd like to thank the Lord for this football victory" |
|
This just uttered by the Miami quarterback on ESPN. This stuff just drives me crazy. Whether or not you believe in God, does anyone really believe God was behind your victory? That the focus of God's day was making sure this one football game goes a certain way? People who pray for victory in a game I think make a mockery of religion. Its like, God loves me more, so he gave me the victory. People saying lines like that in the subject line think they are witnessing their religion to others, but all they are doing is turning people off religion. YUCK!

Andy Pettite. He's cute as hell but too preachy with all the God stuff.

6. John Wettleland used to do that too |
|
I would watch, thinking "why can't you just look great in your tight uniform?" while he was preaching. Since he had the greatest butt ever in baseball I would forgive him and keep watching.

A-Rod and Jeter also have nice butts but I'm just biased since I'm a big Yankee fan!
Well, Wettland used to be a Yankee so he could win the Best Butt contest, I don't care!

If it drives us crazy, just think how it must piss God off.

8. That's pure Brock Berlin; it's usually a five minute prayer |
|
I'm barely exaggerating. Tonight was by far the shortest lordly tribute I've ever heard from Brock. I went to an intrasquad scrimmage in August 2003 and this was the first thing he said to reporters who questioned him after the practice session, "I want to thank God for allowing us to get through this scrimmage without serious injury."
As a Canes fan, it drives me more than crazy. Berlin is the first Miami player I simply do not like, regardless of comebacks like tonight.
He flaunts his religion game after game, yet picture this: I attended the 2003 opener vs. Florida in the Orange Bowl. Berlin led an amazing rally from 33-10 down in the middle of the 3rd quarter to a last minute 38 -33 win. He transferred from Florida so the comeback was understandably extra special. After his 5 minute sermon while being interviewed by ABC following the game, Berlin ran toward the Miami fans and unleashed the slashing sign -- right hand cutting across his neck -- at least a half dozen times while heading toward the lockerroom.

11. I remember that game, but not the rest of that |
|
I didn't see the bad sportsmanship stuff. How Christian of him. I have seen him preach before. Why can't he just play football? Leave the sermon for Sunday. Or never.

12. You didn't see the slashing stuff because it wasn't on TV |
|
I was sitting at the 10 yard line near the closed end zone. We stayed for 30 minutes in the stands to savor the amazing comeback against Miami's most hated rival, who we rarely play anymore.
Berlin made the slashing motion maybe 15 minutes after the game ended, while running laterally across the closed endzone. He was saluting the cheering Miami fans while holding his helmet aloft in his left hand, and making the slashing motion with his right.
It got a little bit of negative press in Miami, but I saw no mention nationally.
