OMG!!!!!!! I HATE PEOPLE WHO TELL ME NOT TO FORGET 9/11!!!!!
Sorry for the screaming but my FREEPER mother in law just sent me ANOTHER don't forget 9/11 BULLSHIT email.

OMG. I am going to claw my face off, tear my hair off and run hot piano wire through my eyeballs if ANYONE ELSE TELLS ME NOT TO FORGET THAT DAY.

No, on second thought, I am going to actually SMACK the next person that admonishes me not to forget it.

Let's see, it's only the WORST terrorist attack on US soil and I'm just gonna wake up one day and think "Hmmm, what WAS that day? Was that when they went on strike down at the plant? Or was that when we got the new kitten? DAMN! I wish I could remember! Why didn't I listen to their jingoistic slogans and songs of nationalism? No I had to be an America-hatin' liberal and now I CAN'T REMEMBER!!!"

But seriously guys, I told my mother in law (who sent me that Santayana quote about those not remembering the past being doomed to repeat it) that 9/11 is going to be in US History books for time out of mind. Kids not even BORN YET will be told about it. I reminded her they still make MOVIES about Pearl Harbor and we STILL observe the day we gained independence from the British, even though that was 228 FREAKING YEARS AGO!!!

Omg. I am so fucking sick of September 11. I am sorry, but I am. Go ahead, try to tell me not to forget it. I'll knock your eyeballs out, so I will.

"I'm voting for Kerry so i don't have to repeat it."

3. Ask her why Bush was asleep by 11pm on 9/11
While the whole country lay awake...Who did this? Why? At that time, they thought 10,000 would be dead. Even "America's mayor" said the final death toll would be "more than we can bear"....3 years later, many of us are still haunted by it.... people lost jobs, people lost loved ones....yeat Bush slept soundly by 11 pm.

4. i totally agree
and then they have the nerve to attack Kerry for saying he wants to make terror a nuisance and fucking MOVE ON.

NOOOOOOO WE CAN'T MOVE ON! it's better to hear about it 10 times in EVERY FUCKING speech ever given by a republican. if we don't do that TERRORISTS WIN! they want us to live in fear! so if we move on it is giving in! we need to talk about it constantly and live in fear like they want, because if we don't do that we're doing what they want us to!

kerry says: we should continue to fight terrorism until it has been dwindled into a minor threat. and maybe we can move on eventually.

bush says: although we can not win the war on terror, we should keep fighting it until we do. 9/11 and the threat of terrorism should be invoked every day until the concept no longer exists.

5. I understand completely
I get why people say it but I think it's completely unneccessary. Who in the name of god would forget such a day?!?! Like you said, It will be a MAJOR part of American History. Years from now we'll be watching movies about it (like with Pearl Harbor) and my great grandkids are going to lear about in their history class. No-one is going to forget it for quite a long time (like, ever)...

7. Translation: Don't forget that
we need to kill all the "A-Rabs."
Everyone I hear say this is one of those people who can't distinguish one middle-eastern nation from another. They also happen to be people who hate Volvo-drivers and latte drinkers. ie: New Yorkers!!
It's all about them and their bigotry against all Arabs.

my mother in law IS racist and I remember her sending me nasty little emails right after 9/11 with cartoons about just nuking all of the middle east, etc.

It's also totally political.

8. This is emotional harassment,
emotional manipulation and emotional exploitation. It has a purpose though. It's like a high. Get on that fright or flight rush. Humans like to get high.

Unfortunately, addiction can be deadly, especially when nook-you-lar weapons are involved (coming to Iran soon?).

I don't really agree with this Arianna Huffington article, but it's along the same line...

11. I'm with you there.
Just because I'm not a * fan, people feel the need to remind me every day: Don't forget 9/11. Support the troops.

Of course I know that stuff! I'm an American, and I felt 9/11 as hard as anyone else. I know that 9/11 was not the work of Saddam Hussein, and I know that the troops are dying in Iraq for a lie. How am I being unsupportive of the troops when I insist that more attention has to be paid to their plight?

15. You could gently remind her,
as Mr. Nownow does his mother, that he does remember that day -- and the first thing to pop into his mind is the fact that Bush* was president.

As for me and the MIL, she sent me one too many "FW:FW:FW:" forwards and Mozilla mail has now determined that all her e-mail is junk mail. Rather than do anything about it, I just rely on him to tell me what FReeper crap she's forwarding now from his FReeper relatives.

that you always remember the CIA backed overthrow and murder of Salvador Allende and all those who died under his US puppet Pinochet.

As for being able to forget the attacks on the WTC and Pentagon - no-one in the world is allowed to forget them, we don't even know about most of the attacks elsewhere in the world - the victims are faceless and nameless but people half a world away from NY had the names of every single victim broadcast on their TV.

Beleive me NO-ONE anywhere at anytime will be allowed to forget when the US experienced something that many people around the world live with daily.

"Our dreams were shattered one cloudy morning when the military overthrew the democratically elected government of Salvador Allende. Twenty-nine years later, at midday, Chile's's firemen sounded their sirens paying tribute to thousands of men and women who lost their lives without really understanding what was happening.

It was a moment of remembrance, not for the victims of the military coup, but for those killed at the World Trade Centre in New York. Sad as that might have been, it is even sadder that Chilean firemen have never sounded their sirens to remember our own dead. And there are thousands of them, including many children, who were murdered by the military"

22. Add that to the Alamo, the Maine, Pearl Harbor, etc, etc.....
Another jingoistic response to "remember" as if we would all forget.

"Old men forget, and all shall be forgot" --that's some Shakespeare for ya, Henry da 5th, it's what I usually end up using on people who freak out about "remembering 9-11." Quite true, but odd how even the Brits remember St. Crispin's day and the battle that occurred.

I can't quote it exactly, but Vonnegut made a great point in, shit now I can't remember the actual book, but it was on the lines of people remembering recent tragedies, but no one remembers the slaughter of one million people at a forgotten city in Syria 3,000 years ago. Eventually, yes, 9-11 will pass from the collective memory of humanity, but not at least for many, many years.

26. HA! The Alamo was the first thing that came to my mind.
I say, don't get mad, get even. My aunt was doing this a lot until I started sending stuff back. She once sent me some RW propaganda about the "Islamo-Ragheads" and some "remember 9/11" crap, so I gave her a lesson by reading passages from the Al-Qur'an. The crappy freeper pics are fun to photoshop too. I was sent a stoopyd pic making fun of Kerry's "smaller, leaner NAVY" (as if he already had the NAVY to control), but I re-did it using Rummy instead. This really pissed off some folks. :D

23. Yep. I get that rubbish occasionally.
Someone will squeal like a stuck pig in a barbed wire fence about remembering 11 September.

And here's what I tell them:

Yes, I remember nine-eleven all right. I remember your precious frat-boy sitting there in a Floridian class room being stunned stupid while America burned. I remember him not knowing what the fuck to do other than primp for but yet another photo-op. I remember him saying later how he didn't want to upset the children, however, after the photo-op, he upset the children anyway by announcing we were under attack. The dumb ass.

I remember him going to AF-1 and dilly-dallying around in the air, hither and dither, for HOURS. First to Louisiana (laa-dee-daaa)and then (laaa-deee-daaa again) Nebraska. Meanwhile America was burning. I remember.

I remember how on nine-eleven I was scared for my family, friends, and neighbours. Having lived in both cities, I knew a lot of people. Probably more than he did.

I waited to hear something- anything from this totally incompetent man, who was sitting in Al Gore's house and I heard nothing. I remember thinking how I wish Florida had counted all the votes. I even had an idea that it (9-11) would not have happened if Florida's votes had been counted.

I remember when I went to bed that night, I couldn't sleep. Really, who could sleep? So I read all night long. I read science-fiction to be exact, because it comforted me. Meanwhile, he slept. I guess I answered my own question on who could sleep after nine-eleven. It's the clown who takes nice looooong vacations during the month of August, while the PDB's get stuffed into the historical memo file. You know, the one where it clearly says Bin Laden determined to pull all sorts of mischief with in the US very very soon. Yes, that one.

I remember later how he did not want a 9-11 commission. Why was that? When his nasty self was up against it, he allowed the commission, but would not testify. Huh? Then he said, oh all right, I'll testify if I gotta, but it's going to be behind closed doors and I won't be under oath and blah, blah, blah and oh by the way, Dickie will be with me. What the hell is that supposed to mean!?

I remember after nine-eleven when the frat-boy said he'd get Bin Laden, DEAD or ALIVE! WOOO-HOOO cowboy! However, several months later... when I still couldn't sleep, he said Bin Laden wasn't a priority. Huh? Gee-fucking golly wee.

Yeah, I do remember nine-eleven.

27. This would be a good reply to those "Remember 9-11" e-mails.

:7

Some people really get off on feeling sad about 9/11, Princess Diana, etc. Maybe they are grief-deprived, in need of more pain in their own lives?

It was a day of awful events, things we'd never seen in the U.S. before, but I knew immediately how the Bushistas would use it. I was right, too. They've used all those deaths to forward their own agenda, and broken promises to the survivors of those killed on 9/11.

32. That was when
America sold out to fear.

And I didn't go with her. I remember 9/11; I also take a moment to remember all of the victims of murder, rape, domestic abuse, poverty, untreated health issues, homelessness, and drunk drivers in 2001, and every year before that and since. I grieve that my country can be obsessed with the "enemy" on the outside, and wallow in fear and war to fight "terrorists," while blind to the homegrown weapons of mass destruction at work on American soil every day.
