FoodNetwork.com - Coolest Recipe Site Ever? |
|
Edited on Fri Oct-15-04 12:26 PM by Jack_Dawson
Type in a word, get hundreds of recipes, courtesy of Emeril, et al. Read reviews. Save recipes to your own database. All of it free.
I made an awesome marinade for my steelhead trout last weekend.

but I always go to foodtv.com first.
Edit to add: I almost always use 'alton' and 'oliver' in my sub-searches because they are the two best cooks on the channel.

3. It's good, but not as good as epicurious.com |
|
It's the first place I always go for recipes; food network is usually #2.

13. Well, here are a few reasons.... |
|
Edited on Fri Oct-15-04 02:36 PM by Shakespeare
1. Significantly larger recipe database (and therefore greater variety).
2. Less duplication (I get a LOT of identical and near-identical recipes on search hits at the FN site).
3. Hot links to food and technique dictionaries.
4. A "review" section where people post excellent comments after they've tried the recipes, and often offer great tips for making the recipe even better.
I'm not slamming the Food Network site; as I said, it's usually the second place I go when I'm surfing for recipes, so I absolutely do like the site. I just think Epicurious' site is a little better.
On edit: You can also create your own personal "recipe box" for free on epicurious.com, just like on Food TV. I have one at both sites. :-)

5. First thing I do when I want a recipe/idea. |
|
Go to Foodtv.com and see if Alton Brown has done a show on it. AB rocks out loud.

10. Alton Brown hosts the show Good Eats. |
|
It is a show that incorporates the "science" behind cooking techniques, humor, and some damn good food.

8. I love foodtv.com recipes! |
|
It's usually the first place I look (other than my basic cookbooks). It's easy to find what you're looking for because you can search the site in seconds, when it would take you maybe an hour to find the recipe by searching through books!

Also epicurious.com, as has been mentioned here. They have a collection of recipes from magazines like Bon Appetit, Gourmet and Food & Wine. Both are very fun sites. :hi:
