Oh man, the President of our paper chain was just here
Edited on Fri Oct-15-04 01:18 PM by HEyHEY
He fanned my ego about how good the paper looks and what good job I'm doing. I looked him right in the eye and said thanks and all that knowing full well I have a job interview THIS afternoon somewhere else...

I feel like such a bastard.

1. Don't!
If they needed to let people go they would do so without batting an eye. Don't ever feel guilty about trying to better yourself.

6. that's probably a major part of why he's got that job ...
He can flash that dazzling smile when he tells people they're being downsized, or that they simply must take a cut in benefits so the company can survive -- and they go off all contented, so there is no unpleasantness. My guess is that he wouldn't have gotten to where he is now, if he hadn't been looking out for himself (and, pardon my cynicism, done things that make your consideration of another workplace pale in comparison).

Loyalty and virtue are great things, but for some reason, our culture is far more likely to put the burden on workers, and let the upper echelons off the hook ("I know that he didn't want to announce the cutbacks, but it was a business decision").
