Southeastern/MidAtlantic DU'ers. Are Halloween Decorations up..like in
Edited on Fri Oct-15-04 06:10 PM by KoKo01
other years?

My neighborhood here in NC used to be the "showplace" for Halloween Decorations. Last year there seemed to be less and instead of over a hundred "trick or treaters" we had 25...

This year in a neighborhood of hundreds of houses only about a third have a pumpkin, a scarecrow or even mums in Autumn colors on their fronts.

The Church Harvest Festivals on Halloween were advertised outside all the new churches and I heard from a neighbor that all the kids are now going to those where they give out candy, rather than going "trick or treating" in their neighborhoods.

Is it just my area that looks so bleak this year, or are any of you noticing the same thing. If it's like this...I'll have to move. The holidays and changing of seasons is really important to me ...for tradition. I don't like to see this.

1. I'm more midwestern, but I noticed the decrease last year
There are still decorations up but there were NO trick-or-treaters, where the year before there had been TONS. Everyone was throwing handfuls of candy into my childrens' bags because they were going to have so much left over.

 I don't know what was up with that or how it will be this year. The weather was fine ... I just don't know

3. Do you have more "fundamentalist churches" springing up in your area?
I'm not sure whether to blame it on Bush or the fundie Christians who think Halloween is the "Devil's Day." But it such a stark change.

Some of the little kids in our neighborhood are older, but new families with young kids have moved in...so age of kids doesn't seem to be the problem.

Also...what if it's the "death of innocence" for little kids because of Bush/War/Cynacism?

4. I'm in north Georgia. There are a few decorations up.
But the stores have had them on display since last month. And also most of them have Xmas decorations for sale. And it is not even Thanksgiving yet. Isn't commercialism great?
