When Kerry Takes Office I 'm Going Shopping!
I have waited four long years and our family, with total cooperation from our eight children, has skipped four Christmas shopping seasons and the rest of the year except when absolutely necessary. So attention business owners. We have boycotted the military-industrial complex for a long, long time. When President Kerry takes the oath, we are buying a new refrigerator, new washer and dryer, two new cars, clothes, new computer (another Apple) for my office, digital cameras, and many other things including stocks. I will remember who supported sinclair, I will remember who supported limpballs, I will remember where to put our money and if I don't know, I will ask the advice of DUers.

1. You are a SAINT
This is a wonderful gift. Had I only thought of it at the time!

How many others have done the same thing ?? I havent shopped because my wages were cut and my husband lost his high tech job. So maybe once President Kerry is in office and some jobs are created he will have a job and we can shop again.

2. You think the "military-industrial complex" goes away...
just because we get a new President? You haven't been paying attention, huh?

3. That's a great idea
I've got some major things I need but I can wait another 17 days. Gosh what fun - a Kerry Won shopping spree!

I've got a friend that is looking for a house, but he's not going to buy one until after the election. He says he wants the option of moving to Canada if Bush gets elected.

7. Well, in my case
I'll buy a used dryer instead of a new one. I'll shop at thrift shops and garage sales for other things even though it takes more time. Honestly, if Bush is going to be in for another 4 years, I will feel like I have to save every penny I can, because I am far less confident that he will be able to turn things around with our economy and he will continue to pour billions of dollars into extending our occupation of Iraq and possibly invading Iran. I will be preparing for hard times.

8. We May Move to Canada
but if we stay, we will continue the boycott. We did this in the sixties and we can do this for as long as it takes. Right now I have a Maytag washer that leaks water all over the garage floor and has for over a year. I will just keep mopping.

11. That's great! I don't either....I support my locally owned merchants.
I support my smaller, locally owned hardware, variety and grocery stores. Most of these small businesses treat their employees more humanely ....I think the 'uniforms' and corporate dress codes dehumanize people.

I pay a few cents more, so maybe I buy less and use things more wisely...which is probably better for the environment. Places like walmart encourage people to 'stock-up' and over-consume a bunch a trinkets we don't need in the first place.

Businesses should be small enough (to paraphrase Grover Norquist) to where we can drag them into the bathroom and drown them in the bathtub - if they get out of line. (For some reason, SINclear Broadcasting comes to mind.)

10. Isn't that funny! Our family is doing a similar thing.
We will be fixing/remodeling the house, buying some new furniture, putting in a new mailbox and flowerbed, and putting a bunch of money in stocks. But not until that *astard is out of the White House. We also have generally skipped Christmas shopping except for tiny token gifts.
