Girls Soccer Game Gets Political
I never thought I would be one of those horrible spectator parents. Next week, I'm going to have to either not go to the game or medicate myself before hand.

Another parent who looked like a slightly less appealing Jesse Ventura, showed up and was being loud and mouthy. He started out by asking loudly if his team was "ready for practice."

Then about 3 minutes into the game, he starts yelling at the referee and criticising his calls. I shouldn't have said anything but finally said, "Just let the ref do his job, sit down."

He turned around and yelled at me, to be quiet, "it's a free country, I can say whatever I want, I'm a republican!"

Here's where I should have just kept my mouth shut, but I said, "that doesn't surprise me at all."

So then he goes, "oh yeah, you're just a democratic pig." No lie.

At this point a couple of other people pipe in and tell him to settle down, that he's out of line. Later he seemed to be trying to drum up support, but no one was going to back him up. He gave me dirty looks for the rest of the game, and then watched as I walked my kids out to my car. He was a total creep, but I'm still mad at myself for getting involved. Oh, I think I said something about him needing a Xanax somewhere in all that.

Does everything have to be political? It's a kid's soccer game, for crying out loud.

1. Could be worse - he could have demanded a "panty check"
Someone in Texas actually demanded one during a girls' soccer game a few years ago because one team was just too good - they swore that one team was stacked with boys in drag.

How much more insulting to women could that schmuck possibly get?

2. The type of Republican who won't volunteer to fight for his country
but sure shoots off his mouth at every chance......

It's the Republican Way.

3. .
Well yeah, it's really deplorable how divided the US are.
People tend to see politics or party affiliation before the actual human being.

4. i take it the ref was a wimp...
he/she could have had the guy thrown off the field or have "his" team forfeit the game. i`ve been involved in youth soccer for years and seen a few times where a ref has "removed" asses like this guy. i`m sure his daughter is really proud of her loud mouth dad....

15. The ref probably couldn't hear him.
I was pretty much oblivious to what anyone on the sidelines was saying when I was concentrating on the game.

5. I'm simply amazed

At the whole thing, but what, precisely, was he implying with
"it's a free country, I can say whatever I want, I'm a republican!"

That it's only a free country if you are republican? Because, after all, you were just saying whatever you wanted.

What kind of schmuck would even think of inserting their party preference into a situation like that?

Edit: punctuation mark fix.

9. I can't believe I left this part out of my story
Soon after he laid the free speech/republican line on me, he told me to stop talking to him. Apparently free speech is only for him. :eyes:

6. Didn't you get the memo?

Rethuglicans can say and do whatever they want.

You, as a nonrethuglican, are supposed to knuckle under.

Good for you. I myself got into it with some rethuglican witch candidate for office some months ago. The bitch and her minions are standing out in the front of the public library (and they want to pay less taxes where I live and they barely pay any taxes at all to begin with) trying to drum up support. I am sure she'll get it, since I live in a rethuglican hellhole.

Anyway, she *steps in front of me and blocks my way into the public library*, and wants me to support her in her rethuglican run for office. I was polite at first and stated ,"Sorry, I'm a Democrat" and walked around her. So, she says out loud to her little buddies, "No Democrats wanted."

I could have walked away. I could have ignored it. But I have had it with them and their bullshit.

So I turned around and loudly said, "What did you say to me?"

Now she gets a shit-eating worried grin on her face and starts blithering something. I was wrong to lose my cool, but into the building I go.

I come out about a half an hour later.

She is still out there harassing people with her petition and shit and she ***AGAIN*** has to mouth off to me. I yelled at her, "YOU HAVE SOME GODDAMNED NERVE LADY!" Now she is freaking out. I wanted to call the cops and talk to them about her blocking and harassing people. I spoke to the librarians inside, and they said they had other complaints about this rethuglican.

Being nice is over. Waaaaaay over. They got away with murder for 20 years. I have had it with them.

18. Quite frankly
you handled it better than some of us, myself definitely included. I may have ended up in jail because that comment was just a bunch of bullshit. I have never hit a woman and have no intention to start, in fact I don't believe in violence, but when someone says something that blatantly friggin' stupid, it can be hard to hold in one's temper. I know I would have told her to get the f*** out of my way. I realize that we're supposed to be better than them in that regard, but as you said, no mr. or ms. nice person.

And the more I read these posts, the more I'm convinced we're living in one. There's a few brief border skirmishes, like tanks glaring at each other across a DMZ, but nothing too horrifying.
Soon, though...these people are prone to the beliefs that violence solves every single one of their problems. When you have that bitch Coulter on television saying her preferred way of talking to liberals is with a FUCKING BASEBALL BAT, you know that it's coming.

They'll lead us to where Hitler led Germany if we don't fight it.

12. Congrats for speaking out.
I heard a sports report on a football game where the referees mage a call on a fumble then reversed there decision. Of course they had to interject an ala-John Kerry in there that got me a little steamed.

The biggest problem the Democrats have in our area is we let this attitude, like your adversary, go unchecked. This attitude morphed into the attitude "Hey, I'm a Republican, any other way of thinking is rediculous and for losers." I think the tide is turning and they aren't getting away with it as much now.

14. As a former youth soccer referee, I want to say thanks
for standing up to the class bully.

A ref who is concentrating on the game often can't hear what sounds like a loud shout from the sidelines. On the other hand, the other spectators were having the game ruined and a really poor example was being set for the kids.

I was 15 when I was a ref and most of my co-workers were in the 15-19 range. At that point I really wasn't emotionally prepared to handle the abuse I had hurled at me (during a 6 year old girl's soccer game for Chrissakes!) Or to stand up to belicose 45 year olds twice my size.

I really appreciated the parents who kept a sane head on their shoulders.

17. You're welcome, but next time, I'm going to let the ref
...fight his own battles. I'm grateful that the guy shut up, but at little embarrassed at myself for picking a fight. He was a real bruiser looking guy too, and probably wouldn't hesitate to beat the heck out of a mom at a soccer game.

16. Why the hell
did the guy feel the need to blurt out his political affiliation?

How bizarre. God those people are fuckin pathetic. The guy sounds like an ass anyways for getting so riled up over a call in some kid's soccer game, but the need to explain that he's a republican is so strange. The guy sounds like a koolaid chugging freeper. What abunch of fools.

I like your response though! - "I'm not surprised".

19. Republicans do have a monopoly on loud-mouthed *holes
It's enough to convince one that there is almost certainly a strong correlation between personality and politics.

That's not to say that there isn't a variety of personality types in both parties, but certain personality types seem destined for one political affiliation or another.
