Have you ever enjoyed an Americano?
I ask because I just got back from an Italian restaurant where I ordered one and the waitress had to come back from the bar and ask me how to make it. This is the *second* Italian restaurant in a row that had no idea what this world-famous ITALIAN cocktail is ... :sigh:

My wife actually asked me, "Are you sure you're not making it up?"

1. I only know it as a coffee drink
Espresso and hot water. This could be about as authentic-from-the-old-country as pizza... which was invented here in the US.

2. Yes, but I never really liked Campari very much
I had them in Italy, and I made them as a bartender --- years ago, but campari, sweet vermouth, lemon and orange peels if I remember

3. Ick...Campari.
Simon LeBon(Duran Duran Lead Singer) went through a Campari period. He had me try a taste of Campari and Orange Juice he was drinking.

Tasted like Orange Juice and essence of auto battery.

13. You used to drink with Simon LeBon?
I never was a big Duran Duran fan, but I'd still say that's cool.

14. You know Simon?
*looking for cover*

I have always loved Duran Duran... In fact, I am listening to their new album, Astronaut. Quite good. Better than expected.

Why doesn't anyone seem to know about them anymore? It is a terrific aperitif.

BTW ... I would never drink Campari straight ... it is meant to be mixed, and I'm not sure orange juice is the right mixer, since it is too acidic. It needs sweet or something to just cut the taste, like vodka or tonic.

5. No idea. I think the age of the cosmopolitan
American tourist is over. Now it's people hiking and staying in hostels, businessmen having lunch with a martini, or your average American tourist, afraid of losing sight of their tour group and ordering rum and Coke or Budweiser.

Yes, I know it's a generalization, but I think that that is why a lot of touches have gradually faded away.

9. Actually, you may be right and I doubt many folks today know
what an aperitif is, either. I've never understood the taste for a sweet drink before a fine meal--or a heavy beer!

11. Yes, what a lot of people don't consider is that
they are meant to stimulate the appetite and aid in digestion. The sweet drinks and beers have the opposite effect.
