This was in my local paper, how should I respond???
This little paragraph someone wrote in in a column that allows people to spout off without telling their name. It ticks me off.

"The Democrats have a scare tactic for every voter group. They're claiming the big, bad Republicans will re-instate the draft for the young people, take the Social Security away from the old people, send minorities to more hazardous duty in the military, and then they are telling the women they won't be able to murder their unwanted babies anymore."

You can respond anonymously in 75 words or less. One point I came up with myself is that the Republicans are telling Christians that the Bible will be banned....what else can I say with good short wording?

Thanks.

3. Repug fear-mongering.
"Vote for Bush, or expect another 9/11." "Vote for Bush or your children will be attacked in their schools." "Vote Republican or the gays will ruin your marriage."

4. Adlai Stevenson:
I have been thinking that I would make a proposition to my Republican friends…. That if they will stop telling lies about the Democrats, we will stop telling the truth about them.

11. I love that quote. Since they CAN'T stop telling lies,
we have nothing to worry about, and Stevenson knew it.

5. The Republicans have a strategy, too
It's called "Smear and Fear." Their surrogates say anything to make the opposing candidate look bad - no matter how false and slanderous - then they drop a few bombs on Iraq and raise the terror threat level for good measure.

Follow the polls. When *'s numbers go down, the bombs fall and terror warnings rise.

6. I'd say this...

"So far two out of four of those is comming true as we speak. And I have yet to hear a Democrat advocate the 'murder of babies'. In fact - so far I've only heard such a phrase from you. I HAVE heard Republicans tell us the bible will be banned and we will be attacked again if we don't vote for bush... now THAT's fearmongering."

{On edit}-THAT should steam him pretty good.

Edited to 65 words - I'm sure there's ten more out there...

7. Although 9/11 happened on Bush's watch, due to his misadministration's
ignoring the many many many warnings given, Cheney the Dick wants you to believe that a Kerry/Edwards victory would directly result in another terrorist attack on our soil.
How's that for a cheap-shot scare tactic?
Not to mention the RePugs try to scare low-income and middle class voters with the tired old "tax and spend liberal" smear, despite the fact that W has increased the size of the federal goverment by almost 6% since he's been in office, and has increased the deficit to record levels.

13. With facts
Social Security is insurance in case one becomes disabled or if a spouse dies or for old age, not a retirement plan. We've just called up the elite Black Horse unit, who are NEVER called for routine duty. We're running out of troops. They have to come from somewhere. Women's reproductive rights are in jeopardy. So where's the scare tactics?

16. Here's how I would respond:

In reference to the claims in the anonymous editorial claiming "scare tactics" by Democrats to Voters, particularly on issues related to a possible draft, the failure of Social Security in the future, and the threat to women's reproductive choices by the Bush Administration, my answer is this - Sometimes the truth is scary...and there are some real things that fellow Americans, specifically the potential young military draftees, the elderly, the unemployed and Women voters need to know. All these things are real issues and realistic concerns for all these segments of voters and if they don't know that the overextension of our military and possible future conflicts won't lead to a possible draft under the Bush doctrine of pre-emptive war, or the attempts to privatize Social Security will weaken & destroy it and that the clear and stated opinions by Bush and demonstrated weakening of laws that protect a Woman's right to reproductive choices, including access to safe abortion procedures if needed. The Republicans want to accuse ironically the Democrats of scare tactics...it seems that its more that the Bush administration and Republicans are the ones using "scare tactics" and false ones at that - Heard the ones about Republicans claiming Americans will be less safe from Terrorists if they vote for Kerry? (False) Heard about the Republican direct mailing in some swing states about the Democrats wanting to ban the Bible? (False) Heard the one about Weapons of Mass Destruction and the imminent threat of Iraq and connections between Iraq and 9/11? (False) You decide who really uses scare tactics folks and whose telling the truth to the American Public.
