Here is your chance, explain why I shouldnt try to find common ground? |
|
Edited on Sun Oct-17-04 01:30 PM by JohnKleeb
Let me explain. I am a Catholic and I don't like Christianity as a whole being dissed because of some assholes being jerks to gays because they use scripture as their reason yet I can see why that may cause hosility of some gays towards religions like these, but I don't like generalization, and I know people mean the fundies but damnit say fundie zealots not Christians, I am of the belief that there is good and bad in all, to me at least, a gay person who lives their life and helps people gets in to heaven more likely than a hetero who spends his whole life looking down on people who are different, and there is good and bad in all.

6. Because there is no common ground between good and evil |
|
And there is no common ground between right and wrong, when it comes to who should be our next President.
Bush is evil. Everything he does is bad for our nation. He must go.

That's very true and thats why I think it's wrong to judge Christians as a whole because of fundie assholes but I don't find myself a victim of the people who find religion or people who are religious stupid or misguided. Always in the middle heh, except for politics.

13. I think Gandhi said this about Christianity |
|
(I'm paraphrasing, mind):
"It would be a great religion if not for the Christians".
You gotta hand it to him, too. If you read the Bible (the "New Testament" in particular), you'll see a lot of compassion an wisdom on display from Jesus. Unfortunately, it's the "followers" of the last 2000 years who tend to be the skunks in the ointment.
If you have doubts, I recommend reading the "Thomas Jefferson Bible". Thomas Jefferson went through the King James Bible and cut out all the red text (i.e., Jesus's words) and put them into one book. Each new member of congress gets a copy when they first come to the Hill, and you can find them at your bigger chain bookstores.
The Jesus it portrays is quite remarkable-- and quite a bit different from the one the zealots and fundamentalists believe in, too.

14. Gandhi has a fine point |
|
I really can see why many people may resent christianity but I told my philosophy is that there is good and bad in everything, simliar to my belief not everything is black and white but shades of gray. I may read that Jefferson but he's a Deist, and I am not heh, and I would never read a King James Bible anyway, thank god I am Catholic, because I could never read that.

16. As far as the fundmentalists go |
|
The call themselves Christian, so I call them Christian. I try not to blast "Christians" without specifiying something in particular, when I can. However, I will continue to call them Christians, just as I call the most foul-mouthed, braindead freeper a fellow American
