Sirius is some serious awsome radio...who would go with XM - clear channel
when they can have Sirius?

I just had Sirius installed Friday. I can barely stay out of my car. It is AWESOME. I made it well known that I only considered, purchased, and installed Sirius because of AAR.

I can't believe anyone but stupid Bubbas would choose XM. Now I know car manufacturers determine which satellite radio company your car is wired for. Porche = XM Mercedes = Sirius.

But anyone who would choose XM as an aftermarket option is an idiot. By the time you finish paying for allof XMs the extras you've doubled the cost over Sirius. Not to mention...with XM you have to pay an extra 4 bucks a month to listen on line and with Sirius it is a part of the deal.

XM=Clear Channel money grubbing GOP whores.

3. That's it, you can't get what is on Sirius for free...AAR is only avail
in downtown Atlanta. Can't get it most of my ride home. Sirius is awesome.

Can you get CNN in your car for free?
Discovery Channel in your car for free?
Comedy in your car for free?
Club mixes in your car for free?

and so much more.

Poor thing you just don't understand.

7. I know you probably find this old fashioned and outdated
but I get AM and FM free. They work just fine. I also have a CD player and I can wait till I get home for CNN and the Discovery Channel. That allows me to have more money for the frivolous things of life... like clothes, eating out, furniture, savings, etc.

15. So because some of us want to avoid
innane commercials and music that doesn't fit our taste, you make a snide remark like this. Also, my area does not have any liberal talk shows so I like the fact that I have Sirius Left and Air America. Don't knock choice!

23. They don't get it, will never get...The music on regular radio is all
corporate driven. I want music that regular radio can't offer.

18. Some places don't get radio...
I used to drive between Phoenix and LA a lot. In the desert you can only get mariachi music and Rush Limbaugh.

On the other hand, most major markets do not have room for a good jazz or classical station, or Pacifica.

2. My husband got xm for me for x-mas 2 years ago
they had AAR before sirus. I listen to c-span, AAR, cnn, msnbc mostly. I do have one complaint, when Randi Rhodes is on for 4 hours xm only plays 2 hrs and gives the other 2 hrs to Big Eddie Schultz. I like him alright but I'd rather have the first 2 hrs of Randi. How is Sinclair connected to XM?

9. The WHOLE LINEUP even WEEKENDS!!! That's why I got it,
The station they have here only has clearance for maximum signal 6am to about 8pm after that you can't get it @ my home plus the signal weakens about 10 miles outside of ATL.

SO I can have it the whole drive in and the whole drive home!

Plus they play music that radio stations don't play like pure club remixes etc. I love that!

6. CLEAR CHANNEL DOES NOT OWN XM!!! CLEAR CHANNEL DOES NOT OWN XM!!!
For the love of God, people...why can't we get our facts straight on this? Clear Channel is NOT XM! They do not have a controlling interest, or any input on programming. They own less than 2%! You or I probably have more say in what XM does than Clear Channel.

I think we should make this a sticky at the top of every forum. :)

13. Sirius is the better deal
I've heard XM is better for music, but Sirius does seem to have decent music channels.

For talk, Sirius is much better. The entire AAR lineup is played, and there's another separate liberal talk channel (Sirius Left) that has some good shows, including Ed Schultz and Thom Hartmann. They've also got an exclusive contract with the NFL and Stern coming a year from January. I believe NPR and BBC News are also available.

Don't think I'd want to listen to the Discovery Channel (some things seem better with a picture) but when I get satellite radio, I'll definitely go with Sirius over XM.

14. cause I didn't know
when I bought the system. All I knew was that I could get AAR on XM and that is the ONLY reason I have satellite radio.

16. This stupid bubba has XM
Because I are into music more. Iffen you like talk radio, like AAR, yull prolly like Sirius. If yer more into music, XM is better.

Ahem. My husband has Sirius in his car, so that cancels this stupid bubba out. Really, it depends on what you want. If you're not a talk radio listener, XM may be more your thing. Siruis has great talk radio. I like the selection of music channels on XM better, and I like to listen to music while driving. So my car has XM. AND CLEAR CHANNEL DOES NOT HAVE CONTROLLING INTEREST IN XM! CC ONLY OWNS A VERY SMALL PERCENTAGE OF THE COMPANY! I know that has already been shouted here at DU a million times, but that myth still persists that Clear Channel owns XM.

17. And what extras are you talking about?
Edited on Sun Oct-17-04 06:43 PM by Pithlet
The only premium channel I know of that costs extra is the Playboy channel, which I don't get. Both our XM and our Sirius were roughly the same to buy and install, and the Sirius is actually more a month. It's 9.95 a month for XM, 12.95 for Sirius.

that means he brings more subscribers and that means more programming.

26. I've joind a Sirius forum and they have the scoop on all the systems
Supposedly there is one small enough to take everywhere that you can use portable speakers and headphones with if needed.

That is what I want so I don't get busted wasting bandwith @ work.
