Poll question: 80s tunes: pick one
This happened because I was in a local fast food place and they were playing the 80s (or possibly the MTV alumni) satellite radio channel, and actually played "Mayor of Simpleton" (on the poll) and "Beds Are Burning" (not on the poll) as well as a couple of numbers I'm busily trying to re-purge from my memory.

Or you can go here and be reminded of all the songs that made you want to stick a fucking shotgun in your mouth during the 80s:
http://www.xmfan.com/viewtopic.php?t=21699
or for that matter here:

for offending your sensibilities. I will make it a point to vet all music polls through you before posting, rest assured.

33. You don't need to get snotty, I just don't understand your poll.
Your text says something about needing to purge the songs from your memory, the choices could be good or bad.

Cripes ! Get over yourself ! :freak:

40. Sorry. The phrase in question modifies "they were playing" and
contrasts with "Mayor of Simpleton" which I put on the poll. This is supposed to convey that the songs on the poll are the ones I like. Sorry not to be clearer and for misconstruing your reply. As to the original poll, since I can't edit it any more, I'll have to leave it at "It means what people think it means," like modern art.:D

8. It's sort of an MTV-themed poll
Much as I like Joe and Squeeze (and Elvis below), I don't remember them having great success as video artists. Then again, I'm not that sure about Big Country either; anyway, I await assorted blasts from people telling me this is all corporate crap and they can't BELIEVE I left off their favorites.:D

And my assertion needs no further justification. Either you know, or you don't :)

And either you get it or you don't. As the Romans said: "De gustibus non est disputandum." There's no arguing matters of taste.

15. The Fixx
Saw them live in 98 on their, umn, "comeback" tour. They were quite good, actually. I still listen to a lot of their early stuff, in fact. "Shuttered Room" is one of my top 10 desert island records. Klassic!

43. You Will Admire The Fixx
Resistence if futile. Now, don't make me come over there!

BTW: The "comeback" tour in '98 (i saw them too at the Vic) wasn't really a comeback tour.

I met them at that show and talked to them for about 20 minutes. Those guys invested VERY WISELY when they were selling platinum records. They put the band back together just because they all missed playing live and hanging out together. They weren't even touring to promote a record. Just wanted to play midsize and small venues. (The Vic holds about 800, i think.)

After i heard that, i liked them even more, and that wasn't easy since they're one of my favorite bands ever.

19. Loved "Money for Nothing". Great video for it too..
I particularly liked that song because some of the lyrics were comments I had heard from my father and my uncle when they walked in the room while I was watching MTV. Actually, that whole album was really good.

"When Doves Cry" was another great song. One of the two Prince songs that I like.

23. Born in 1982
My oldest brother listens to the classic rock station. I would do anything to change the channel when a song by the group "Yes" comes on.

I listened to "Weird Al" when "Amish Paradise" was popular and also heard some of his older stuff. I wouldn't want to die listening to him, but perhaps a good whack to the head to make me permanently deaf wouldn't be so bad....:wow:

37. I loved all of these songs. Is the question which ones we're sick of?
Cuz I would say "Sledgehammer" of the choices given. But all these songs are cool, just overly familiar.

If you wanna talk overplayed, horrible, bad memory conjuring, let's talk anything from the TopGun soundtrack. Or "Invisible Touch" by Genesis.
