'Sports' is the opium of the masses,
Far superior to religion here in the US of A. GO GO GO!!!

Why? How have we sunk this far? These CORPORATE teams are but a hairs breadth apart. How did we sink this low? In Europe and S America, there is passion for 1 sport.

Why do we have 3-4? Are we on Viagra? Do we need more width or girth? What's the scoop?

PLEASE - do not assume that what I state is AMERICA. What I state is that the males (primarily) in our country are interested in is other males attempting to beat down other males attempting to beat down other males. attempting to beat down other males. attempting to beat down other male.s attempting to beat down other males.......

Can't we evolve?

without religion Bush would have never come into power. So many people see Bush as a good Christian man and that's why they vote for him. Think about it.

23. Olympic sports ROCK!!!
I worship the ADULT gymnasts (I was at the 80 edge) I was fortunate enough to be 5'7" at 40 , Most of compatriots are 5'2 or less and most are experiencing severe nerve disorders.

I didn't give a shit because I was 'a loser' and didn't give a shit at the time.

10. It's "Opiate" buddy
Is our population entirely too invested in pro-sports? Absolutely. Does that mean it isn't a positive for an individual to have a few of teams they really enjoy rooting for and enjoy watching? Hell no.

The "opiate" thing doesn't apply to PLAYING sports however. That is a great constructive pasttime for all ages in my opinion.

17. good point
taking sports too seriously is a problem not only in America, but in many parts of the world (soccer riot anyone?)
Enjoying the pleasant diversion of playing baseball or going to a football game is good for your health. It is fun.

21. now here's a post i can stand behind!
a little 'chasing the dragon' now and then is healthy - keeps you in shape, kinda like sports.

ps: promised myself that in my own house sports will never be seen on my television - even during family social gatherings. would rather bust it open or have them flake than stand a moment of sports on my own television. just me though. when i'm at anyone else's place and they are watching sports i patiently forebear it, it's their tv :D

33. :) think of such murder as a healthy culling of sickness
first there'll be a little :grr: then a :nuke: followed by :spank: and when it cools down  and :grouphug: and afterwards :donut:

and maybe a few less annoying relatives, too :D

basically sports is a means to keep calm, express fierce emotion acceptably, and be a focal distraction for many families. otherwise communication would get tense, i know, i've seen it too. but i'd rather have the maelstrom. separates the wheat and chaff a good :nuke: does.

15. I'm sorry you cannot enjoy a pleasant diversion from life's pressures
since time immemorial man has engaged and watched sports because it is fun.
Sorry that you cannot enjoy competition between excellent athletes.

Are music, theater, spirituality, sex and art also opiates?

I guess sports are an evil conspiracy thrust on us to keep us ignorant, despite the fact that sports have been a feature of human civilization since the begginning.

29. Except that it's neither fun nor a "pleasant diversion"...
when you get right down to it, team sports are a vicarious substitute for warfare. As such, they fulfil a psychological need and provide a sort of safety valve for the primitive human desire to kill, humiliate, and conquer...which sports fans get by proxy through their favoured teams.

19. As far as soccer games in E and SA go, you can get killed
in riots. They take sports seriously there.
And soccer is not the only sport. They have hockey, cricket, basketball....
And Cubans, even Fidel Castro, take Baseball seriously. And the Japanese as well.
