Just hit the toggle and ping pong turns into hockey!
Actually, pac-man, and breakout (the lowering brick wall) were pretty good too.

6. Some favorites:
Edited on Mon Oct-18-04 03:09 AM by sfg25
Arcade: Gauntlet I/II ( I used to have a fullsize Gauntlet II machine )
N64: Goldeneye
PS2: Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

My next favorite game will no doubt be GTA: San Andreas

Anyone remember Die Hard Trilogy for the PS I?

Until Grand Theft Auto came out it was the bloodiest game I've ever seen.

Ah what the hell:

- Joust (arcade)
- Vanguard (arcade)
- Spy Hunter (arcade)

12. I'm all over the place here
Wasteland (simply the best game ever made)

Bard's Tale 3 (more old school excellence)

Civilization 2 (Awesome, awesome genre defining game)

Pirates! (another Sid Meier classic - soon to be remade I think)

Soldier of Fortune (a rare FPS that I enjoyed. Usually not my thing)

Wizardry 8 (Perhaps the best FRPG of all-time. Certainly the best of the modern era)

High Heat Baseball 2001 (Awesome baseball franchise, sadly has fallen on hard times)

System Shock 2 (scariest game ever. More scary than Doom 3, IMO)

Starflight and Seven Cities of Gold (In their day they were oh so addictive)

I've missed a ton of great ones but that's all I can come up with right now...

good catches. I played both a LOT.

Another one I played a ton on my old Commodore 64 was Jumpman Jr. That was a seriously addictive game.

And how could a forget Dungeon Master?

I'm getting nostalgic.

21. Seven Cities of Gold was pretty cool (C64).
Everyone back in the C64 days had shoeboxes full of games to pass around and copy.

Is that how shareware originated?

Remember Demon Stalkers?

Lode Runner!

31. Glad to see someone finally mention Morrowind!
That was BY FAR the best game I've ever played. It is so rich and deep with so many options.

I would also add:

Civ 2
System Shock 2
Quake and Quake 2
Half-Life (and Day of Defeat Mod)
Call of Duty

Some honorable mentions:
Gothic
Deus Ex
Thief
Syberia

And some old school games:
Lode Runner for the C-64
Demon Stalkers for the C-64 (those damn multi-level maps!)
Bard's Tale 3 (Remember those battles that literally too HOURS to resolve ...) for the C-64
Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy for the C-64 (and just about anything else from Infogram)
Kaboom! for the Atari 2600
Pitfall 2 for the 2600
Berzerk for the 2600 (mindless, but I loved it when I was 12)

44. Star Control II, Wing Commander & the Ultima Series.
Old school:

Those who've played Star Control II on the PC or the Panasonic 3DO know the deal.. I've never been more absorbed in a video game than this one.

Wing commmander gets a nod at being one of the best space flight combat sims of all time, even without the roddy mcdowell & mark hamill cutscenes.

And the ultima series of RPG games were the best RPG's of the 80's and early 90's. All modern RPG's owe origin systems a nod.

New School: Fable for Xbox is an amazing RPG, very addictive. SSX and Tony Hawk for PS2 (they keep getting better) and who can forget John Madden football?!
