Poll question: Has anyone on DU ever posted after having had a few drinks? |
|
I keep hearing innuendos, so I just thought I'd ask. I don't expect anybody to come forward, unless they want to, but to just vote. This is my first poll, ever, so I appreciate the votes.:-)

"Driving while blind" might some kind of zen state involving the use of alcohol.
Posting while driving, that would be impossible. I can't even dial a cell phone in a moving vehicle.
Using a computer is somewhat like driving a car. Can you get arrested for posting while blind?
on edit: spelling (burp) WTF with post #2?

7. Thanks! I get it now and remember the tune |
|
Wasn't the refrain "Driving on empty...?" I can't manage to dial while driving, either, which is lucky for me, since it's illegal in New York State. The hands-free version, which I have had, is okay, but I only use it in an emergency. Cell phones while driving may be illegal here, but I see people using them while on the road, everyday.

Many of my posts are anger-induced. Right now I'm so angry at what is happening to this country and so scared of what additional untold horrific damage Bush* could do if he has four more years! These days, I will talk to anybody who's not running the other way, LOL! And that's not like me, at all. But desperate situations create desperate people!:grr:

40. I would think that the things that we read on DU |
|
would cause people to drink, rather than the other way around. I mean, everyday, there is more bad news about Iraq, the economy, jobs, health care, education, which Bush* keeps telling us are going so well and being taken care of. And we know that he's lying or is positively delusional. I don't know which option I prefer.
And everyday, something new comes out about what this administration has been up to. Lately, it's been Sanchez's December letter which says that the troops in Iraq lacked needed supplies and spare parts and Gore's recent speech on how, just prior to 9/11, there was a flood of intelligence that we were in danger from an attack from al-Qaeda, and Ashcroft chewed out the acting head of the FBI for bothering him with this and another huge problem with the voting system in Florida. If all this doesn't want to make you reach for a drink, then what does?!

I would worry too much about enjoying adult beverages every now and then, but smoking is a killer. But I'm not going to preach to you because I smoke, too. One word of advice, however. If you give up smoking plan on giving up drinking also for a little while. Having a few drinks while trying to quit smoking has been my undoing many a time.

My doctor has told me that I should give up smoking, since I also have asthma, but I haven't ever managed it, despite SmokeEnders and hypnotism. I have given up drinking before, and find that much easier, despite being Irish-American. I know that this is a stereotype, that the Irish drink, but I know my family, and several have had problems, so I know I shouldn't have gone there. But giving up smoking is something I just can't imagine. That will be much more difficult for me, even though I came to it late, the year I got out of college. My dad started smoking at 14, and I lost him to throat cancer, far too young, so you'd think that would be sufficient motivation for me. But that's the addiction that's tough for me to deal with.:smoke:

I lost both of my granfathers to tobacco related illnesses, but I can't seem to quit. I started smoking regularly when I turned 16 but I had my first cigarette much earlier. They say that nicotine is one of the most addictive substances on the planet. I have a friend who used cocaine heavily for a year and also smokes. He was able to give up the cocaine without any 12 step programs, but he can't quit smoking.

I did smoke, occasionally, as a teen-ager, but didn't smoke, habitually, until I graduated from college. I, too, have lost family from tobacco-related illnesses. I lost my Dad, as you know, but also his brother and sister, to lung cancer. My uncle was only 47. I know that I am crazy to continue, but it's very hard to quit. It doesn't help that my mother rags on me about this, each and every day. I was doing well, after the hypnotism, until she started in on me, not even noticing that I wasn't smoking. She quit smoking and is the same as George Bush* as a "dry drunk." I wish you luck with this. Quitting alcohol is my first priority, and I know that I can do it as soon as I get away from my mother. As for cigarettes, I just wish I had never started.
