Poll question: In What Season Were You Conceived
Do the math... work backward from your birth month to guesstimate about when you were conceived.

My theory: I'm guessing that colder weather leads to more snuggling and intimacy and... well... you know.

17. urban myth, sweetie... sorry.
http://www.snopes.com/pregnant/blackout.htm

I know that when we had a 27 hour blackout here, I sure as hell didn't feel the least bit romantic. I was worried about the food in the refrigerator spoiling, the heat being off (electric blower.... :eyes: what good is a gas furnace if you can't use it when the power is off??), about looters or other freelance Enron Accountants taking advantage of the situation....

Ice storms are a bitch.

9. I think your theory is wrong
I'm a March baby, and there are more March babies around than a statistically even distribution would predict. And that, of course, is because when June busts out all over, they went about as fur as they could go.

14. I Could Be Wrong...
that's the purpose of the poll.

But are we to assume that the majority of June brides only have one child? Or that every child that follows is also conceived on the same schedule as the couple's anniversary? -- It's an interesting question.

16. Anecdotal evidence
My little brother is also a March baby, three years and four days later. (The three year gap was the orthodoxy of the time, as propounded by Dr. Spock.)

My sister was three years and three months after that, however, so she was conceived in the early fall.

And my mom was a June bride, but that had to do with her graduating from college; I wasn't involved, even as a blastula.

12. Total gross out
My brother (born two weeks early) was due exactly 9 months to the day after my birthday.

I'm so grossed out by this I refuse to have any more birthdays. Presents will still be accepted, of course, but no celebrations.

21. Oh, wow....
...I had to think about that one for a second - and it IS gross! Talk about loose! And then there's "residue"....

I'm amazed that a woman can ovulate that quickly after giving birth.

After reading my other post, I totally wasn't clear.

18. I was due in mid-Feb but showed up in mid-Jan.
So probably conceived during Spring Break when mom and my father went to Lake Michigan with a bunch of friends.

Both sisters - 3 years apart and fabulous for engendering sibling rivalry - were winter conceptions; one was born in July on her due date, one due June 11 and showed up on July 5.

Mom could catch pregnant by hanging a dress next to dad's dress whites....

22. I'm a Winter brat....
...and my birthday was day before yesterday, making conception sometime in February.

A rather curious aside about my birth. My mother was a very beautiful woman and a successful model. She hated being pregnant because of the weight gain since her vanity was legendary. I was conceived less than two years after the birth of my brother. When my mother became pregnant with me, my father (with the aid of my grandparents on both sides) had to have her "put away for her own good" during my - ahem - gestation period. I never knew what that meant until well into my adulthood. Since my father divorced my mother shortly after my birth (unheard of in the 50's) and got custody of both my brother and me (outrageous in the 50's) I rarely heard anything about her and have never met her. So, I eventually started asking questions around the time I was 30, wondering why the big secret about my mother, whom I KNOW is still alive. Anyway, they had to have her put into a hospital because of her amphetamine addiction when pregnant with me. Bear in mind, they didn't have drug treatment clinics in those days, they only had mental asylums, so , yes, I was born in a mental institution. After I was born, my father took my brother and me, filed for divorce and my mother hauled ass, surfacing only occasionally with sob stories and such that I was never told about until I was in my 30s. My step-mother is my mother, and always will be.

So, when people get all misty eyed and start talking about the moral purity of the 50's, I have a very different take on the whole thing.

36. Wow...
I don't think my mom would have been to happy if that were the case. A pregnancy that lasted from August until July (not to mention three extra months of development time) would have been quite the test of human patience and stamina.
