How about the rating numbers NBC, CBS, ABC and Fox networks are reaching. The networks that are the parent companies of these cable outlets are presenting the same spin and are having ubiquitous impact on the naive segments of the population.

You are kidding yourself if you think the corporate media is not having a powerful effect on the collective consciousness. It is incorrect to assume that the only viewership is consolidated to "us and people inside the Beltway". Further, the relatively few that are watching the cable networks are "key influencers" that affect their social sub groups that they have an intellectual leadership position with. Consequently outrage over the impact that the cable news stations is hardly misplaced.

What is a waste of energy is to bitch about it only to the choir here. But at least the outrage is being built here, it just needs to extend further, to the subgroups that the key influencers here lead.

Do you not see the irony of your outrage over my "telling you what to do" while your are telling those who are concerned about corporate media propaganda what to do?

If I want to "bitch" about your incorrect assumptions regarding the influence of the corporate media conspiracy, that is MY business.

I get into long email feuds with commentators and right wing cartoonists.

I don't post on DU --"OMG, did you see this cartoon"???

I email the artist and send links that go against their anti-Democratic bias and lies.

I post cartoons that I think are funny.

I post stories that are informative.

I post editorials that are thought provoking.

I post play-by-plays when a news show features interesting to the Democratic cause.

I post play-by-plays when a media "talking head" is being taken to task.

But I don't post these "OMG" posts, just to garner a bitch session.

I have no control over others -- only myself.

I got sick of seeing that shit going on in GD2004, and came here to vent.

I was sent an absentee email today, with a link. I posted it in the Georgia forum. I want to see if it's a good idea, because I want to take election day off and volunteer my services to help drive people to the polls. Moveon.org is soliciting volunteers for that.

I called Kerry's headquarters here to volunteer in any capacity they may need (as well as to get bumper stickers and yard signs). I haven't heard back from them, however.

I do not know why people don't just consider this like a cafeteria. Lots of people talking at different tables. All have welcome signs with a topic list. Sit down and listen if you want, move to the next table and browse the subject material, or go to an empty table and start your own subject.
People get riled up, but they have the option of seeing the opening subject line and can choose whether to listen, participate, or move on.
