Poll question: Are You Squeamish? |
|
I'm a wuss! I can't stand the sight of my blood, or anyone's blood! I can barely manage to put a bandage on a small cut (I have to keep looking away and hope that it's on the right place.)
I can't even stand blood and guts in movies. Even the ones that look fake (or black and white) disturb me. --- Whenever I watch "ER" I have to remove my glasses so that the bloody emergency procedures are one big blur.

2. It Pains Me To Watch "Emergency Vets" and "Animal Precinct"... |
|
Edited on Mon Oct-18-04 03:02 PM by arwalden
... aside from the heartbreaking tales of cruelty, some of it is just too nauseating to watch.
I wonder if my aversion to blood is something that's instinctual or something that's learned?
How do doctors, vets, and rescue workers do it??? I'd throw up or faint dead-away if that were my responsibility.

3. I don't mind reality,,,blood of mine or somebody else's |
|
as long as it's not caused by some sort of violence. Can't stand that in movies, television...hence my vote for the first choice.

4. Not at all. Neither was |

my father. Hell I could cut myself and watch myself bleed.
Of course, this certainly suggests a major psychological problem but, hey, what the hell!

9. When in plot dought go for the blood& guts |
|
It's cheaper than the shot of the car flipping or the old stand buy of the burning man. theres something real sinister about portaying violence as an action shot filler.

Dad is a doctor and I always had books around with pictures of people's insides. When I see pictures of blood and gore I just start thinking about what it'll take to fix the problem. I should've been a paramedic instead of working in a law office.
I can't stand the sound of suffering though. I was in the hospital a long time ago and I heard a child who was getting stitches. I started crying and had to excuse myself.

8. I don't mind it in reality. The fake gore makes me ill, though. |
|
Weird, huh?
I am far more comfortable helping people who are hurt than I am watching special effects of people being hurt.

I always wanted to be a veterinarian - surgery and that sort of thing fascinates me. I've stitched myself.
When my sister had her son, she had to have a C section - I asked to go in with her. They suited me up but made me sit by her head - there was a drape over her so I couldn't see anything. I was disgusted - kept getting up to peer into the gaping opening and the doc would admonish me and tell me I was there to provide moral support.
I said, "No, I'm not! I'm here because I want to watch!"
I'm so strange, I've always wanted to attend an autopsy just because anatomy and the workings of the body have always fascinated me.

12. Yes, I have almost passed out |
|
I have turned very pale, had to lie down, and drink water after just hearing graphic. In one of my intro classes required for my biology major, I had to disect a live frog and watch its heart beat. My lab partner was also squeamish so I did the open heart surgery and then had to take a break for a half hour because I felt like I was going to die. This is why I am not in any type of medical profession or do research on animals.

However, seeing pictures of children hurt in war or otherwise... well, it's not really the gore that gets me, but it REALLY gets me.
