So I have this tree that's toppling my bathroom.... |
|
I live in a cabin built on a hillside. The bathroom is essentially hanging off one end, held up by some pretty stout timbers but it's like a treehouse almost, with nothing but air under the floor. Beneath it is a large tree that has, over the years, begun to lean outward down the hill.
Yesterday, I'd just gotten out of the shower and was standing there with the window open when I heard this loud "CRAAACK" - a sound I know well. It's the sound a tree makes when it's starting to let loose.
Hubby went out and looked - it seems the tree is not long for this world and when it pulls out, the roots will rip out the supports and my bathroom will go tumbling down the hill.
The landlord has called the tree surgeon to come lop the thing off and I hope he comes out soon because every time I sit down in there, I'm having really bad thoughts! I love living in the woods but sometimes there are some really strange disadvantages!

You might as well continue to enjoy living in the woods because I can assure you that trees fall down and smash entire houses in the suburbs -- I should know -- it happened to mine last year. :-(
Fortunately the insurance covered all but $500 but it was a hassle that lasted for months getting the place rebuilt.
People do die in treefalls, I wouldn't allow the landlord to mess around with too many delays.

Do you have plumbing, or does it just roll down the hillside? :p

There's piping that runs down to the septic system.
It's a great place and I love it. The landlord is really good about things so I'm supposing the tree surgeon will be here sooner rather than later. It's just odd to think about when you're in that small space and you know you're hanging over a hillside.
