Hey San Diegans! Enjoying the Rain?
OOOOHH Baby!! Its comin down now and hard! First in 181 days! Growing up in Boston, surviving in the rain is second nature. Not out here. Its a big and strange event here in the southland.

2. It wont last long. Just a front.
The real "rainy" season starts in December when it might rain 8 days in a one months period.
Dont worry, you should be ok.

3. Lovin' every minute of it.
People elsewhere don't realize what a blessing getting some rain actually IS when you go without a drop for 184 days.

I lived in Phoenix AZ. for a couple of years and THEY got more rain then we usualy get.

4. I try to stay off the freeways though.
Not that I'm afraid of the actual rain, but am afraid of the drivers who dont know (not accustomed to),how to drive in the rain. Its white knuckle for most. My son was in that pileup on I-8 yesterday. He and his friends were unharmed but the car got totaled.

8. It isn't the drivers, it's the oil on the roads.
After 181 days the roads are covered in oil and gas from exhaust systems. The first few rains make the roads really slick, think ice storm slick in some instances.

San Diego drivers do not miraculously get better behind the wheel after a few storms, the roads get better. I'd suggest staying out of the ocean for a few days because all that stuff winds up there.

Aloha from an ex San Diegan.

PS, I wish I could get a decent Carne Asada Burrito.

15. Albertos on Commercial in Barrio - Logan.
Giant carne asada burritos, tender meat, no fat or gristle. The best in the city.

18. I like them all.
Seriously. All the 'tos. It's just so goddamn GOOD.

Some are better than others, but a greezy quesadilla and a carne asada burrito tops off a bender at 2:00am quite nicely.

But the ocean is 78 degrees plus, so I deal with it. But man, I miss the homemade torillas at Old Town Mex.

12. It IS the drivers.
People dont drive that well in the rain. It scares them, they slam on their brakes alot, the freeways are backed up. I've lived in New England and Florida and the drivers seem to have a handle on how to deal with the wet stuff on the road.

16. So, all those people who have moved to San Diego
from somewhere else lose their ability to drive? Nope. I used to manage a lot of people who were out on the road, every time we had a rain storm after a long dry period, we'd have a meeting to remind everyone to be extra careful. I am sure there is a minor freak out with rain, but watch carefully, the problems won't be as bad in a few days. Also San Diegans are used to driving 70 mph plus, they have to slow down when it gets wet.

I know you New Englanders rarely get to go 55 and you are the best at everything, smarter too, but give the So Cals some credit, after all you are there now too.

6. My friend was in San Diego a couple of years ago when it rained
The airport was practically shut down. Her flight home was delayed for hours.

Here in Vancouver, we don't let a little thing like rain stop us. Of course a few flakes of snow, and the city grinds to a halt.

7. Yeah, maveric... enjoying the rain.
Enjoying the Sox' time in the limelight? It's about as rare.

And the rain will still be around after this week.

14. It's pouring up here in the Bay Area
I just got drenched going out to clear my gutters - they were filled with pine needles and I had water gushing all over my deck. I love it, though. It sounds so nice on the roof and I don't have to go anywhere today so I'm avoiding all the road morons.

I grew up in Vermont so I know what you mean about the difference. Seems like people out here forget how to drive in it every year. I just don't get it...
