6. I really object these days to drugs in general, but will admit that I used

to enjoy acid with my wife when we were first living together. We had some remarkable fun.

I can say that it is the only drug I would be tempted to take again, though I don't think I would actually do it, if even if I knew where to get that stuff these days.

..felevant to this conversation, I was already an old guy. I wasn't impressed with the quality of the sacrament, but it was mildly interesting. Perhaps it's a reflection of some entropy in my own journey, but it was mostly a "Oh, yeah, I remember this feeling" kind of event.

These days, I get off more on subversion and the subtle magics that come with age. That and a vodka or two.

"Other drug" I think of when acid is the subject is mescaline/peyote. (they are the same thing, right?). Ahhh, to have access to that again.

Its not even a safety issue with peyote. Its "allowed" by law for religous sacrament. Must not be that dangerous. (unless theyre trying to kill of the remaining Native Americans. I never hear the major politicians talk about the Native American vote, or the concerns of the native Americans).

It requires relatively sophisticated chemistry to make LSD starting from a 5 indole boronic acid and a 2-methylcarboxylate-3-chloro-isonicotinic acid methyl ester. Selective ester hydroylsis and susbequent suzuki coupling and selective reduction of the 2-methylcarboxylate and partial reoxidation to the aldehyde. This is intramolecularly condensed with base to give an alcohol, which is reduced to Lysergic acid with NaBH4.

You can then separate the diastereomers and make the amide.

For mescaline one merely permethylates gallic acid (made by hydrolysing tannins, permethylates it, hydrolyses the methyl ester, converts it to the acid chloride, and hyrogenates it over PdSO4 give the aldehyde. The aldehyde is condensed with base to give a nitrosytrene (yellow needles). This nitrostyrene can be reduced with Lithium aluminum hydride to make the mescaline. Mescaline has two planes of symmetry and there are therefore no stereoisotopes to seperae.

Isn't mescaline a synonym for peyote?

is the active ingredient in Peyote.

I mean a question.

You are way over my head in your speicifics. All I know is that there was something called "acid" and there was something called "mescaline": and I always understood "mescaline" to be peyote.

But the question is - if peyote (and/or mescaline) is cultivated from a bud on a cactus - naturally occurring - can you "make" it in a lab (or bathtub or sink or whatever).

I mean, you can't "make" peyote, can you?

but I've always preferred pot.

I saw the original Ren & Stimpy at the "Animation Celebration" movie while tripping and I never laughed so hard in my life. Tears were actually shooting out my eyes. The fancy floral print carpet in the lobby was really cool too. :)

I received a gift in Boulder at the 15th anniversary show. The guy who gave it to me said it was Owsley acid, (he liked the poster I was selling). I took that purple paper, gold foil pyramid designed tab the night Mt. St. Helens blew (the 2nd time). Perhaps Owsley and I had something to do with it?

Alas, I haven't been on the "scene" in quite a while.. (the global psychadelic scene)...it's been years and years since I did any of these.. the analog laws making a lot of fantastic compouns illegal pretty much put a damper on things.

But there is some 4-Acetoxy-DIPT just waiting for me to try... but I just haven't been up for it for the last 2 years it's been sitting there.

It might not actually have been wise for me to post that comment on a public message board. Those compounds are completely legal to buy and sell, but only if they're used for scientific research. At least as I understand it. I have no idea what enforcement is like.
