Please! I hope nobody in DU does Meth..... |
|
My daughter met a young man, age 23 who having had a Meth habit for a while has been diagnosed with Kidney problems. They are doing more testing but he may need to have dialysis. He was also diagnosed with a heart murmmer that has never shown up before.
Dr.'s believe that at the very least, the Kidney damage is from the Meth.

Meth labs all over the place..it's fucking disgusting. People buy truck caps and put the labs in their trucks so that the cops have a hard time sniffing them out. Shit blows up all the time, too, becuase these idiots can't deal with the ether.

It's HUGE here in Salt Lake. I've met a number of people who are addicted. I know a lady who left her 3 boys and husband and is now on the streets because of a meth addiction and this was really a shock because she was a staunch Mormon. I like that Edwards brought up this issue in a speech the other day.

why do you hold it responsible ? Would things be better if meth (or pot) were legal ?

16. How can you compare Methadrene to Pot? |
|
Things would be better if pot was legal. People would not be "doing time" for a substance that's less toxic than alcohol.

22. Things would be better in the sense that stoners would not go to jail |
|
but I still don't see how this would reduce the meth epidemic. Speed freaks can shoose from pot or speed, both of which are illegal but widely available. They'd just rather have speed. Not sure that the drug war has much effect on these people either good or bad.

meth is really hurting the gay community. I was hooked on it when I drove semi back the late 80's. One thing I do know about meth, it's so addictive that is usually takes something tragic to happen to make you stop. Prison or death. In my case, I lost my 40,000 a year trucking job.

In my llfe I've been around a lot of people who used and abused a lot of different drugs, and the two I've seen really screw people up are alcohol and speed in all it's variations.
I was up at a local hot springs retreat a while back and spent quite a bit of time chatting with a guy, turned out he'd come up there for 2 weeks to get off meth. He said he'd come home and his roommate, also a meth user, had spent the afternoon with a razor blade trying to cut out the bugs he was sure were crawling under his skin. That was enough to make even another addict decide it was time to quit.

21. It's big here too...here's a recent horror story... |
|
The next county over from mine, Jackson, is very rural and has a big meth problem. Lots of labs being busted. Recently some people got busted after they had to take their baby to the hospital. They had reused a bottle for the baby that they had had meth in and the baby got very sick from the residue of meth that was left. Fortunately, I've heard that the baby lived and is going to be alright. Probably not so the parents.
Very scary drug.
