Hi there I'm "A-Rod" I slap like a sissy girl
MeeeeeeeeeeeeOooooooooooooowWWWWWWWWW

Anyone who ever played organized baseball learned that in the first 10 minutes of the first practice-there was always some idiot who did that and the manager quickly directed everyone to how wrong that is.

MeeeeeeeeeeeeOooooooooooooowWWWWWWWWW

Sorry for creating this extra thread but really ........I mean really!

1. Yeah, I'm disgusted with A-rod
He's shown nothing in the clutch. Pitchers don't fear him. He's just another (very rich) average player.

2. You are so wrong!
There is no one more dangerous with his team up by 8 runs or more. When the game is out of hand, A-Rod is lethal!

3. Yes, he's a great player. And he'll cheat to gain advantage.
He contributes to Repukes and acts like one.

He's a great player, but an ass.

But I'll still be pulling for him tomorrow. Four in a row simply cannot happen.

14. Speaking of Giambi
Seems Giambi went so hard on "the juice" when in the minors (and after?) that he gets testoterone shots weekly now so he can.....perform.

seen by a sports player in a while. And that's saying a lot!

10. What in the name of Pete Rose was that about?
Edited on Wed Oct-20-04 12:16 AM by theboss
I would have more respect for A-Rod if he had simply dropped his shoulder and tried to take Arroyo's head off. We can only wish that Bob Gibson in his prime had been the pitcher. He may have shived A-Rod after a play like that.

15. Ha! Yes Gibson just might have
A few years ago Hank Aaron was interviewed and he bemoaned the fact that today's pitchers don't know how to pitch inside-it is all or nothing, either throw at a guy's head or stay completely away.

It grieves me to say that Hammerin' Hank is a Bush supporter as he is IMHO the most complete ball player in the last 50 years.

oh and Pete would never have even thought about pulling something like that.

11. Hi guys. I was there at Yankee Stadium last night
Being a good 200 feet from the play on the 3rd base side, it was hard to see it clearly. So I said to the Yankee fan next to me: I never saw a guy drop the ball like that. He said: "well you're not supposed to hack at the ball like he did."
So he got on his cell and called his girlfiend at home. She said it was so blatant and embarassingly bad what A-Rod did. And of course, what the idiot fans did afterwards was worse.

Damn great effort by Schilling tonight.
Let's see if they can do it again, and make this Red Sox fan VERY happy. :)

13. yeah... if he had just plowed through to get to the base thats one thing
but he did indeed hack... it even knocked off arroyos glove but he was quick to put it back on so it was kind of easy to miss

18. Postgame quote from A-Rod:
``It was a big momentum changer,'' Rodriguez said. ``I don't want those umpires to meet anymore because every time they meet, it goes against the Yankees.''

- - -

No, asshole - every time you cheat, it goes against the Yankees.

19. The worst part? He never touched base and was called safe!
Maybe the umpire's view really was blocked for the chopping motion, but A-Rod ran right bast 1st base, about 2 feet to the right, and the ump still called him safe! It's as blatant as anything. WTF was that about?

21. No, the umpire was signalling "play on"
I've used the signal myself in similar melee situations. You'll notice on the replay that the first base umpire is shielded from the action by the first baseman: The umpire first stood up straight, then leaned left to try to look around the first baseman, but in doing so missed the critical moment of the action, when the runner swatted at the glove. The next thing he saw was the ball on the ground, trickling away, and his head swivels down to where the ball is.

At that point, his call is on the ball, not the runner, and he gives the "arms out, palms down" signal that means the ball is still in play. He's not making a call on the runner.

Hope this helps.

22. Ah! I did not know that!
That really looked like the "safe" signal. Is it the same motion? Thanks for the info!

24. It is the same motion
And it can be confusing (especially when watching a replay for 12 gazillionth time, as I did), but context is everything. If he had been calling the runner safe, he then should have pointed at the base, indicating that he was making his call on the runner, and that the runner had gained first base safely.
