8. It's a clearing house for jobs
Sorta like a match-maker for employees and employers.

With such a tight job market, a lot of employers are relying on them more so that they only deal with prescreened and qualified candidates. If you get in good with a reputable one (This one is right on Michigan Ave.), they'll work hard to get you hooked up with a good employer, who pays a finder's fee to the agency.

There are some scammers out there, so you have to be careful to not pay money upfront with no guarantee of results. One of my friends paid thousands to a search firm for an IT job and got nothing.

19. Update
Jason kicks ass!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

After a battery of tests, all the interviewer could say was "Wow" when going over his results. He fudged a little (well, a lot as in he's pressed the "play" button on a presentation) in listing PowerPoint as one of his proficiencies but stilled scored an 88%.

Things are looking *very* promising. :D

21. Not Really Fudging
I'm sure it would take him 10 minutes to figure out 99% of what Powerpoint does. A lot of it is just whiz-bang that takes the place of really good ideas. If any presenter is relying on the "gee whiz" of animation in a presentation, it's probably not worth listening to anyway.

I'd say it's fair to say he DOES know PPT.
