A wonderful debate! College Democrats v. College Republicans |
|
Probably the most shameful ass beating I've ever administered was offered up last night on the College Republicans of the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg.
They kept pressing stupid issues, my panel and myself would open up and go for the throat. It was great. Here's my favorite:
Crazy College Republican Nathan: I want to see one person in this room sign this piece of paper and say the Patriot Act has affected their life! Not one of you can say that it has!
Awesome Wilson of PittPoliSci-dom: Dr. Beeson (the moderator), may I?
Beeson: by all means...
AWoPPSd: First off, any time anyone loses civil liberties, it affects me personally. I'm not about to say think that I'm so self-important that just because it may not affect me personally that it doesn't matter.
after that line the kid turned bright red and squirmed in his seat looking rather uncomfortable. but i continued...
AWoPPSd: We should feel for anyone who loses their civil liberties, for any reason. Our founding fathers are spinning in their grave from what this act has done. Ben Franklin once said that anyone who would sacrifice liberty for security deserves neither. I am outraged by the statement made, and if you'd like, I will sign your paper, give you my address and everything I said here now if it satisfies you.
everyone loved it. I've never had more handshakes in my life. The only reason the College Republicans came to the debate was because I called them out in the school newspaper for being cowards and not debating me.
Campus consensus: College Democrats dominated the debate, according to what I've heard from teachers and from what students had said to those teachers. I can't wait to hear what the newspaper says.

4. Yes. The College Republicans "say what they mean |
|
and mean what they say." They gave a "strong performance."
I'm kidding, of course.

5. you wouldn't believe how lame... |

they were ripping up universal health care as "socialism" but later lauded a program called CHIP, which is a children's health insurance program that give poor kids free healthcare. So I pointed out that they can't have it both ways, and plugged the democrat who created it (Sen. Allen Kukovich) who is up for reelection.
