2. Maybe this would explain it? |
|
The term applies not to the flag, but the use of a symbol to crush political thought. In other words, to be "antiflag" is to be against the crass political device of symbolic manipulation. History is full of examples of political powers conditioning their subjects to react to symbols irrationally. Most recently, Bush has used the symbol of the flag to try to get us all to forget and ignore the failed foreign policies that date back to the Reagan years which have led to our current international crisis.
Indeed, maybe you have to be "antiflag" to really be a complete citizen, able to rationally analyze current events and act democratically to change things that need changing.
Beleve me, I fully understand the stigma that the right would brand on anyone who is "antiflag". But doesn't that prove my point?

3. I'd recommend making the explanation part of your Profile |

and not worrying about it too much.

Sorry, Jimi Hendrix reference, couldn't help it.
Personally, I ain't gots a prollem with your tag, but, uh, it's just like entering a Free Republic discussion with the name Hitlerwasright or something...It confirms the enemy's worst suspicions of us, unfortunately. Yer throwin the freepers a bone, guy. I agree with the person who said to explain yourself in your profile or sig line, so that it might clear up some confusion. Heck, ask the admins what they think.
But most of all...
WELCOME TO DU! Good to see some other punkers here (I'm an old-school (hardcore/SST)punker myself, but hey, we're all into unity, right?

6. Ah, very constructive criticism. You're right, now I must discard all my |

punk rock albums. How could I have been so stupid?
Apparently you've never actually heard any punk, if you actually believe that. How anybody who's heard Bad REligion or The Minutemen or The Saints or The Dillinger Escape Plan actually come out with a statement like that is fuckin weird. Ummm, it's music, and it's a big genre (all the bands I mentioned sound completely different, yet are all called PUNK ROCK), and you cannot boil it down to what you boiled it down to. That's like saying all Americans are bad just because Bush is bad. Read some of D. Boon's lyrics and tell me if you still agree with what you just said. Wow, I'm so amazed by your ignorance, I'm becoming incoherent. Wow. Wow.
