1. Pine tar.
Helps them grip the bat better.

2. Pine tar from the bat handles
then the sheen is from banging their cleats with the helmets to get the mud off

3. And the inside-out hats on the BOSOX fans
Help me with that one too.

So why to the BoSox helmets have so much and the other teams have so little pine tar?

5. Inside out caps are "rally caps".
Sort of a good luck thing.

I think the Yankees are the Yankees and they do not wish to sully the pinstripes with pine tar.

6. inverted caps
the fans are wearing the caps that way as a good luck sign - reversing the curse as it were. I think the pine tar is another sort of reverse the curse kind of charm, I think.

7. Sorry - RALLY caps
I'm sorry, my son just corrected me. The caps are turned backwards to rally the players when they hit a slump, or are down.

8. I kinda got the impression that the Bosox players like the gritty down in
the dirt look with ridiculous amounts of tar on their noggin. Kinda goes with the whole "Cowboy up" ethos and the jarhead haircuts last year.... Does that about sum it up?
