Is that how you spell his name? Anyway, what are they talking about. Said he was still bitter. Does he have a problem with the team or something? Just curious.

4. No shit?
I'll be damned. Well, an ALCS game 7 win won't hurt him.

2. He gave up a multimillion dollar deal when he was hot hot hot
He and his agent thought they could get more. He won 21 games not long ago. This year he has been hit or miss, real mental case on the mound (gets rattled easy). Good guy but everyone was nervous with him pitching. His last 3 starts were awful and they pulled him from the starting rotation for the series. Anyhow, he was bitter and his contract is up this year. I think a lot will be forgiven after tonight, hope so. But that's the short story.

3. Lowe is a shitty pitcher
It figures that the only two games he pitched well this entire year were both in the ALCS. Oh well.

Still a shitty overpaid pitcher.

7. I'm not ripping Schilling, for example.
Schilling is a great pitcher and he pitched great last night, I'll give him that.

Lowe is a shitty pitcher. I'm just stating a fact.

8. Not fact at all
21 wins
17 wins
14 wins

52 wins in 3 years doesn't qualify as shitty.

9. Does an ERA over 5 qualify as shitty?
Edited on Wed Oct-20-04 10:50 PM by YankeesFan
Yes.

Wins don't mean shit.

Pedro had 16 wins and 5 losses with an ERA nearing 4.

Contrast this with Randy Johnson who struggled to break even in wins and losses with the lowest ERA in the National League, at 2.60.

Wins don't mean shit because if you have below average pitching and an awesome offense like the Sox do, even your good pitchers will get wins.

If Randy Johnson had been on the Sox or Yankees this year he would have gone 24 and 2.

If you want to argue about Lowe's talents relative to the rest of the American League pitching then we can do this all night, Forkboy, but the fact remains that Lowe is a below average pitching.

2003 30 BOS AL 17 7 33 33 1 0 0 0 203.3 216 113 101 17 72 110 11 3 886 4.47 4.71 105
2004 31 BOS AL 14 12 33 33 0 0 0 0 182.7 224 138 110 15 71 105 8 3 839 5.42 4.87 90

Unimpressive.

He had a great first season as a starter in 2002, and he's mostly sucked since then. Lowe was better as the closer for the Sox. His ERA as a reliever/closer would probably average out to about 3.5 .

So, yeah, we can argue this all night, Forkboy, but I think you would lose the argument.

Lots of pitchers are in the HoF even with shitty win/loss records and not a lot of wins, but because they had decent K numbers and good ERAs.
