A new annoying type of 'business' call... |
|
I just got a call that when I answered the phone with my usual, cheery, "Good morning Hearth & Home Gifts, Will speaking..." I was greeted with:
"Please continue to hold. A representative will be with you shortly." So I held for a couple of moments and then, "We're sorry for the delay. Please continue to hold."
So I waited for a bit longer (I'm curious by nature).
Finally, "Please hold for the next available representative with an important message for you from Citibank".
<Click> I hung up.
Talk about annoying.

1. UGHUGHUGH - this happened to me yesterday |
|
I had just got a new credit card and I had to phone in to the 800# to verify it. In the process she was trying to get me to buy some credit protection service.
I said I wasn't interested.
Then she went into another canned speech
I said can we please finish the call
And then she had another statement to why I should pay this extra money for it
And finally I asked if he she needed any other additional information to verify my credit card and that I was not interested in her acting like a trained monkey trying to repeat the horrible acted con lines she was giving me.
She came up with a fourth line and I hung up on her.

8. my experience exactly. I hate that. |

The same thing when you try to order something on the phone and then they try to sell you 20 other products or "try them for free." These trials, after you get the product at home, have a very small leaflet that indicates this is a "subscription" type deal: if you don't notify them that you don't want the product, they'll start sending it to you automatically and billing your credit card.

4. I give them a few seconds |

but no more than that. Whenever the student loan people call me to remind me that I, uh, still owe them money, the opposite occurs. I first talk to a live person who then switches to a recording telling me to pay up or two very big bruisers are going to bust up my legs - or something like that.

Only because we are expecting something from our business bank and didn't want to miss the possibility they were calling about that.

I say hello maybe twice, and that's it! I have gotten numerous calls with some clip of music, then "please hold for an important message" to which my response is "click" (and then a few cuss-words)

7. Try this for a comeback.. |
|
If you get a call like this on the weekend, wait till the live operator comes on and say the following:
"Good morning - you have reached the phone of <your name here>. For quality assurance, this call may be monitored by between two and ten individuals will try to imagine what you look like clad nly in your underwear. To continue, please stay on the line, or just hang up while you still have the opportunity. Thank you."
