I lost my Social Security Card, any help?
No I don't need people to look for it ( ;) ).

Here's the deal: I'm attending college out of state. I did some work for the campus bookstore, and they need a copy of my SS card for tax purposes. My card was safe at home or so I thought. My parents can't find it so that means I need to get a replacement.

Whats the procedure for getting a new one? Where do I need to go? County Courthouse, DMV? Can I afford to wait until I go home for Thanksgiving to get a replacement. The total amount I earned was just about $25 but I don't want to piss off the IRS.

Can anybody give some suggestions or useful websites?

1. Local Social Security Office.

You should be able to find it in the phone book, the blue pages under "US Government". Might be able to find out where the nearest office is at http://www.ssa.gov , too.

3. Just what Spider Jerusalem said
They can give you a record for employment purposes until you receive your new card.

6. thanks for all the quick replies
Ok I've looked at those websites and found an office nearby. The only problem will be getting a ride since I don't have a car.

7. Do you have a driver's license?
If you do, your SS number should be on it and you would have had to show it to get the license. That should hold your employer until you can get a replacement card.

8. I have a random number for my DL however...
I will go to the office first thing in the morning and fill out the forms for a new card. As mlle_chatte said, I'll get an official letter that can be accepted until my card arrives. I have already memorized my card number, but my boss needs the actual card or a copy of it.

Again, thanks for your help everyone.
