Paul Hamm deemed rightful winner in Olympic Men's All-Around
No link--the CAS (sports court in Switzerland set up after the Olympic ice skating "fix" in 2002) rejected Yang's appeal, basically stating that it's a big "IF" that the competition would have played out exactly the same way had the mistake (Yang's starting score should have been .10 higher) been corrected immediately.

Anyway, the South Korean coaches kept protesting that they did try to correct the mistake right after Yang's routine, and then when it gets to this court, it comes out that they didn't (I always said they were lying). One of the judges--a South Korean B judge (who SUPPOSEDLY has no connection with the South Korean team and coaches, and shouldn't)--noted the error to the A judges who initially scored the routine. According to the rules, B judges cannot file protests. So, he told the South Korean coaches. Essentially, the coaches missed this. Had they been on their toes, things might have been different. But they blew it, lied about it, and then whined about it!

1. Of course, now that no one's paying attention, he's vindicated. (n/t)

3. Yup, it was splashed across the headlines and playe d ad naseum on
telelvision at the start!

Sort of like a person accused of a crime, and then when they realize it's the wrong guy, there's a small article on page 33.

5. This is why sports that require judges ahould be removed from the Games.
There's nothing but corruption in gymnastics, figure skating and the like. The Games are supposed to bring about good will, but don't even come close - nations leave pissed off at each other.

This is also why if a sport requires a judge, I don't watch.

6. Good, he deserves that medal.
I was at that event. He had a heroic comeback and didn't personally do anything wrong.
