What is the healthiest protein bar?
I just bought a bunch of different brands at Whole Foods and I see that half of them are loaded with corn syrup and palm oil.

What do you recommend? I'm trying to stay out of the cookies that appear in my office every afternoon.

1. Guinness Stout
Oh, I thought you said healthiest protein beer...

In that case, Guinness Stout. It's not just for breakfast anymore.

2. you noticed that they are full of corn syrup
and palm oil? guess what..you might as well have a snickers bar-same level of "health and energy" plus health bars taste like crap it`s not what you eat it how much..so a snickers bar instead of a "heath bar" isn`t going to harm you.

3. I realize that - that's why I'm asking if people know a healthier one
I don't want to eat candy, I'm looking for something healthier.

4. Sorry to be...
goofy and technical...... but what are your diet goals?

Are you eating to lose weight, to gain weight, maintain, just replace a meal?

There are a lot of good bars out there depending on your goals.

5. Thanks!
I want to lose weight by not eating cookies! Three in the afternoon seems to be the peak moment of boredom, so I thought I'd find something healthy and portable to have on hand so I stay out of the junk food.

6. Here's a few...
Here are a few you might want to research:

GeniSoy Soy Protein Bar
Balance Bar
Xetalean Diet and Protein Bar
EAS Myoplex Lite Nutrition Bar
Met-RX Food Bar

(some of these may have corn syrup... the rule of thumb is to make sure the sweetener is listed BEHIND the protein source)

If you're not as worried about taste and are more concerned with nutrition, then go with meal replacement powders... no protein bar can hold a candle to them... but they sure do lack in taste!

Hope this helps.

8. Thanks
I have a GeniSoy here - very disappointing: IP soy protein isolate, corn syrup, chocolate confectioners coating (sugar, palm kernal oil....

I'll take a look at the others. I have Luna, Zoe's, Organic Food Bar and Lara Bar (raw food - cashews & dates).

7. you might want to try fruits or vegetables
Bananas, apples, oranges, carrots. They're all portable and make a good, healthy snack. :)

10. I was like you years ago,
Needed a some processed protein to boost my afternoon. It's not that these bars are harmful, especially the ones not sweetened with cane sugar or synthetics. It's just that there are way better snacks. I recommend going cold turkey and make your own: trailmix for example. Get some pumpkin seeds, and raw walnuts or almonds and mix in some organic raisins, dried cranberries etc. Make your own. Don't rely on storebought which often contain transfats. Also you could just train yourself to eat a piece of fruit every afternoon. Try not to mix fruit with other regular meals. This route is much better for you and more sating.

11. Trail mix cannot really compete with white chocolate macadamia nut cookies
Which was my downfall yesterday. I just don't see that happening. I do have some almonds in my drawer.

12. Mix a wee bit of (white) chocolate through the trail mix.....
I find this very "candy/cookie" satisfying!
