Why I must really root for St. Louis today
Normally, I couldn't give a rat's, er, derriere, about who wins the world series (unless it's Cleveland - then I'd be hiding in a fallout shelter; if this town ever wins a major sports championship, all that will be left of the city after the celebration will be a crater), I DO NOT WANT TO SEE THE CONSTANT COMPARISON OF THE BUSH-KERRY WORLD SERIES!

The only way that would be tolerable is if Boston blows Houston away in four straight games. Including at least one shutout.

Either way, I'm rooting for Boston in the series. I think that would make Cleveland the last of the major-league "cursed" teams (baseball, football, AND basketball). Also, it would be nice to see President Kerry greeting the World Series Champion hometeamers and receiving the Red Sox #1 jersey. That is also the only reason I would root for the New England Patriots for the SuperBowl. GO STEELERS!

1. Was thinking the same thing.
I'm a Yanks fan. I CAN'T root for the Red Sox. I just cannot. But how do I pull for a team from Texas at this particular time? Can't I just root for a meteor to hit Fenway Park?

2. I was JUST talking to someone about this
and how Americans (some of them) are stupid enough to vote based on who wins the World Series.

3. Since you obviously don't have a local team....
Root for whomever you choose.

4. Gotta root for the 'Stros...
Sorry, but they've been my team all of my life.

I must admit that I cringed every time I saw Mama Bush on the screen the other night, tho. Could use a lot less of that.

It'll be tough during the Series too. I like the Sox second.

5. Only if President Kerry
gets to say something to the effect of

"At least I won the big one!"

7. If the 'Stros actually don't break my heart for the 5 millionth time...
I'll take it as a sign that things are going my way. So I predict:

January 20, 2005 newly inaugurated John Kerry says, "At least I won the big one!"

6. It's a win-win-win
When the American League wins, the Republican wins. So we can go there.

But then, there are 3 times that wasn't true, one was in 1960 with that other Catholic President with the initials JFK. So we can also go there.

So it doesn't matter who wins. Although I'm kind of rooting for St. Louis too, because it's where I'm originally from.

8. Go Stros-Houston is not really part of Texas
Bush lost Harris County back in 2000. I know that there will be Red State v. Blue State comparisons if Astros get into the World Series but remember that the Rangers is the Republican team in the state.

9. Well, I've got to add my 0.02 worth:
GO ASTROS!!!
I live in Houston, and have for about 25 years. I've followed the Astros for most of that time, and now, for the first time in franchise history, they have made the playoffs and are poised to go to the World Series. And, I would love for them to play Boston for the big enchilada! Please remember, my dear fellow DU'ers, that, although the Quaker Oats man in drag and her SO live here, they are outnumbered by the many, many fine DEMOCRATS we have here. Astros, via con dios! :toast:

11. Well Said, Lets leave the Politics out of Baseball
Can the Sox stop being "Kerry's Team" and the Astros "Bush's Team?" How about they are just the Boston Red Sox and the Houston Astros? Beleive it or not, MOST Republicans I know were pulling for the Sox and want them to win the World Series. Can we FOR ONCE, Just leave politics out of something as simple and pure as BASEBALL!?!?
