What nudity in film offends you?
My girlfriend HATES the nude scenes in "Clockwork Orange". I remind her thats the point but she really gets bent out of shape over it.Thats the ONLY film that she says they push it. We have seen tons of foreign films where they literally have sex on screen(non-porno)& she has no problems.

Then my mom has always said the nude scene in "Titanic" wasn't needed & she thought it was awkward in the film.

SO, I go to thinking. Is there ANY nude scene in a film that has offened you? The closest thing that comes to mind is RObin Williams Nude scene in "The Fisher King", but that was more in a funny way. Is it possible for ANY nudity in film to offend you?(unless your a conservative)

5. Completely gratuitous strip club scenes
Ever noticed how whenever a movie has no sex, they always put in a strip club scene, just so they can have a completely gratuitous tit shot?

The other kind of nudity that offends me is full-frontal female nudity when the men are discreetly covered. If you don't show willy, don't show bush.

7. "Working Girl"
When Melanie Griffith is vacuuming nekked. I understand it was part of a longer series of scenes that made it make sense, but it was edited down to just one. As such it seems really, really gratuitous.

13. I'm no prude - but nudity in films is often distracting
Because it is so often unnecessary and poorly placed. Let's be honest - Most of us don't see strangers nude in the real world very often unless we spend and exceptional amount of time in clothing-optional environments. Consequently, seeing strangers nude on film carries a certain charge with it for most viewers, and while there's nothing inherently wrong with that charge, it can ruin the vibe of a film if used incorrectly, which it often is. It takes a lot to actually offend me in a film, personally, but a bad grasp on the subtlety of nude scenes by a film maker can be pretty annoying.

37. I agree with that and always want to say that it seems like almost
every film now has gratuitous nudity unless it's "Harry Potter" or kid films. I feel assaulted by it almost. I always say somehow or other the great movies of the late 30s, including many love stories, had NO nudity and were all time classics, like Casablanca, Philadelphia Story, etc. Can you imagine if those movies were remade now?

I guess if an actor is has no butt wants to fool people by having an 18 year old muscle jock flex his tush & think its him, well thats just sad.

Found an entire site where they actually rate the nude scenes an actor does.

20. I Was Bothered by "Love, Actually"
Edited on Thu Oct-21-04 02:25 PM by ribofunk
because it contained the repeated scenes of pornstars doing it in different positions on set. Pretty explicit.

Not from my point of view -- I liked that subplot and thought it was kind of touching. but because my daughter saw it while visiting a friend (she was 13 then). Most R rated movies are fine (what was the big deal with The Matrix, for example?) But that was not the expectation I would have had going into it.

I try to be tolerant and don't put too many limits on what she watches but that was a little too much from my point of view.

21. Violence
Well, I guess I see the point. The nudity in that movie is almost always associated with violence (the two rape scenes). Generally, nudity in movies don't offend me, but I wonder sometimes if it's really necessary or if the director just added it to titillate because the story was weak.

39. Most of it bothers me because so much of it is insulting and offensive
That's because so much of it is unnecessary, awkward, stupid, gratuitous, and frequently reflects attitudes about women and personal values that I don't share.

Having said that, the minority of films in which nude scenes are not those things are usually beautiful and meaningful. It's not the human form that bothers me, it is the attitude and message that bothers me in so many hollywood films.

51. I am SO SICK of seeing women's breasts I could spit....
I agree with what you said. 90% of nude scenes are actually nude WOMAN scenes, and so often it's unnecessary to the plot--not to mention incredibly sexist IMO.

Halle Berry's salary got bumped up when she showed her breasts in Swordfish, I've heard--it's like, come ON already.

I have the utmost respect for women with "no nudity" clauses in their contracts, like Julia Roberts...their films are no less enjoyable, either.

52. Really?
I've thought it's more of a 50/50 split between women's breasts and guy's asses. Which just goes to reflect how scared of genitals Americans are.

"I have the utmost respect for women with "no nudity" clauses in their contracts, like Julia Roberts...their films are no less enjoyable, either."

Well, it's hard to be less enjoyable then Julia Roberts films.

But I don't think it's 50/50 at all. And when you see a man's butt, there's a good chance you'll catch a boob too.

Male nudity is on the rise though. I'd agree with that.
