From the NY Post:
"...the Yankees couldn't get the job done at home; their season ended last night in the seventh game of the American League Championship Series.
<...>
In the end, though, the hitting fell short, and the bullpen simply didn't deliver.
<...>
Still, all in all, it was a pretty exciting series, if not particuarly elegant. In fact, at times it got downright ugly on the field - in more ways than one.
But give the credit where it's due: The Sox provided the heroics where they were needed.
Now comes the real test of the Babe Ruth curse - whether the Sox can win their first World Series since 1918."

The Yankees lost because of Cashman's and Torre's incompetence in their jobs. Torre is managing this team as if it were still the 1998 Yankees, when it's far from it. He didn't put his players in the right positions to win. He didn't make his players bunt against a hobbling Schilling. He didn't use his best pitcher in Game 4 on regular rest. He didn't run against Wakefield in Game 5 in the extra innings, on and on.
Cashman is an idiot GM. He cannot build a decent pitching staff even with all of the resources in the world. He cannot evaluate pitching, and he cannot make the kinds of deals that can bring in an Ace starter. The reason why the Yankees have a $190 million payroll is because Cashman is an incompetent, so he over-pays for mediocre talent.
This is incompetence, not a curse.

But that was just the title of the editorial that was (mistakenly) run in the Post.

2. I remember that editorial. That was like salt on a wound for me. |

But that pain is gone now, thank you. :-)
